PL side V Canberra

yes danny vaughn!! he has been in sensational form and still can't get a crack, this may have to do with david fairleigh not liking him. (not that i know this for sure) but you gotta think this is the case if he can't get a run.

but the side doesn't get flogged they have had some really close games.

yes they won a couple of weeks ago 44 - something... but BUT most of the time the PL team lacks the spark and being changed so much doesn't help. and yes they have been flogged and has some disappointing losses

Didn't realise this guy (Terry Campese) was still around, he was going to be a world beater a few years ago

So was Todd Carney mind you, and now it's Zillman.

Canberra fans seem to love pumping up young halves, to the extent that you think they'll play for Australia. When they fail the fans just move on to the next young half.

They're desperate for another Daley/Stuart.

its all to do with the way we are coached. Elliot has no idea how to bring a young promising PL player into first grade. i think we will see the real Todd Carney under Neil Henry who has a good rep of bringing Juniors through to FG and actually telling them what they need to be doing on the feild

Its a good side, although i think Brad Tighe should be in the centres instead of five-eighth.

I got the side from the NSWRL website.

I think the Knights do the right thing in bringing young guys like Grant, Steel and Hunt into PL ahead of guys like Hancock, Maddison, Bartlett etc etc etc who could have made us a very competitive team this year - but are unlikely to ever be regular firstgraders.
If you look at that Canberra side, and most PL sides, you will see a bunch of older blokes, like Campese, who will never do better than the reggies - but anyone who makes 23 without being a firstgrader at the Knights is gooornnn.
The last time we came close to doing well in PL was 2001 - when we had guys like Kidley, John Morris, Matt Petersen, Anthony Quinn, Paul Franze and a few others all improving rapidly during the season - and we really need a brilliant crop of juniors - like we should have next year and the year after - for us to have a good PL side.

Considering the plethora of talent in our PL side we should be dominating the comp, instead every game we've seen albeit only 3 we've been whipping boys. And reading the results each week it looks pretty dismal.

Personally I think fairleigh's gotta be held accountable. His got the tools to work with.

Roopy, would I be right in saying that was the year where PL was beaten in the GF qualifying final in overtime? If it wasnt PL it was Flegg. I remember the GF qualifiers in 2001, I am sure we were playing in all 3 grades. One of the games went to the wire with about 5-6 shots at field goal. I remember screaming my lungs out at the ref, as he effectively put the whistle away in the last 5mins of regular time and all of Xtra time. He didnt even give penalties when they where 3m in front of him, laying in the tackle for an hour or the markers splitting.....

If you cant tell I am still bitter about this game.

Yeh Tim, thats the one mate. We got beaten by the Dragons in PL in extra time, after the Dragons kicked a penalty goal to tie the scores with about 90 seconds remaining. (That penalty was a joke btw) and the Flegg boys I'm pretty sure got beaten by a field goal by the Sharks I think it was for memory.

I am sure flegg where playing the Sharks as Parki and I were there when gates opened, we watched all 3 grades.

We were commenting on the lack of Sharks fans there. From where we were sitting you could see thousands of Knights fans... and this was Flegg. The Sharks where playing in Firsts and Flegg and we could only make out a few flags.

One of the guys we went to school with played 7 for Flegg that year, Chris Tyrie, you could see after the game that he was shattered... he missed a few shots at FG.

Chris Tyrie. He isn't even playing these days. He is a bloke who had heaps of potential, carved up the Roosters in one particular game, and Ricky Stuart tried to get him to go to Easts, Tyrie was talked out of it by the Knights, and the following year couldn't get a go at halfback in first grade, Kidley being prefered by supercoach, the excuse being he was too small, it was all downhill after that for him. I thought he went to Souths in the real NRL but apparently not, just gave the game away as far as I know.

Thats right Antonius. He was selected for a few NSW combined High Schools rep teams, and captained them, so he had a lot going for him. We always thought he played well, but could have been biased.

When talking to him away from the team, all he spoke about was not getting a go in First Grade even though he was, at the time, the PL halfback. I think getting cut from the team was hard for him to take and like you said, he gave the game away.

Hagan did the dirty on him IMO. He was a stand-out player at the time and should have been a shoe in to replace Johns when Johns was on SOO duty etc. The way I heard it, they more or less told him he'd get the gig if he stayed at the Knights and turned down the Roosters offer. The rest is history, he's not the only junior we've lost because of that sort of thing.

Awesome, stop calling my mum and 20, not just any 20 either, the crusade should have fun in P/L this week, regardless of the scoreline...

That was the year, and saints went on to win the grandfinal in a canter.
That year we were doing nothing till about halfway through the season when Kidley got promoted from Flegg to PL (Flegg were top of the table when he got promoted - but finished about 6th). Kidley had to deal with the awful James Wynne at halfback, who wouldn't give him the ball for love nor money, but Kidley went hunting the ball and scored brilliant individual try after try to pull us from near the bottom of the ladder to the semis. Just before the semis Wynne got injured, so John Morris and Kidley teamed up in the halves and, with our excellent backline which included Petersen, Sweeney, Quinn, Franze etc, we gave the finals an awful scare.
We also won a few games because Daniel Abraham was dropped from firstgrade as a fullback and was switched to lock, and was an instant success scoring about 5 tries in as many games - but he was back in firstgrade by the finals.
