Players refusing to sing the National anthem in protest

Australia has always had a problem uniting folks.

Many folks don't consider themselves Australian. They consider themselves Aboriginal, Lebanese, Greek, Indian, etc

It's something that has always been apparent. I find the yanks in comparison will wholeheartedly call thems American, but also respect their heritage.
Send those people overseas and they all cal themselves Australian, guaranteed.

Great move. I don't sing it either. It's just delays the game for 15 minutes. It's not like gubbas join in with the didgeridoo corroboree either. They should just kill it. It's an insipid song anyway, even for an anthem.

This is so true, I had an Australian Indian woman at work this week tell me that her young son would never be allowed to marry a white Australian (only someone with Indian hertiage) and when I called her out on racism; she fell back onto the old cliche - "No, you white people are racist" - WTF.

So what you're saying is they've already toned it down to get rid of the pommy bits, in order to make it suitable as an Australian national anthem.

To be honest I'm not in love with it either. It's just something that is there. But I don't know of a better one and it was selected democratically by the citizens of Australia. If you know of something better I'd love to see it.
Well I gave two examples. Yes, they toned down Advance Australia but it is still out of touch. Interestingly, they changed it from "Australian sons" to "Australians all" so they really didn't think it through in the 70s imo.

Even if you're coming from the anglo side, how long can we say Australia is 'young'? It's already out of date.

Do you reckon they'll do a welcome to country ceremony - I would say it is on the cards.

It seems to occur at an office morning tea these days.

Australia as an independent country (not the continent) was officially formed on 01/01/1901 - so fairly young.

Unless you want the words changed to, "slightly middle aged & free".

Certainly better than suicidal livestock thieves and murdering bushrangers. But my vote would still go to the existing one, if that's OK with you.

Yes but the original lyrics show that the line Advance Australia fair is not inclusive of all Australians!

The World Cup felt like it was half singing. Although is was good to see how much it meant to Kevin Naiqama.

He could have. The one that I recall is when he had tears streaming down his face.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure that was the Fijian one, than he let rip with the Aussie one.

Loved a good sing-song & a prayer - ole Kev. Seemed to be a gentleman, as well.

Poor ole Willow certain lost that diatribe - poor fella, didn't realise it had a rewrite.
I mentioned it as the original and made it clear that it has been changed.

You clearly don't read what's in front of you and have zero knowledge about most things.
