With 4 NRL players in that that squad it's a hell of a lot stronger than last year's 4 Nations team.

Is this team the full PNG national team, or is it a 'PNG Prime Minister's team'?

Great to see Segeyaro turning out, I thought there was a rumour a while ago that his head had been turned by the ARL for future Origin selection.

Bluebags, this isn't be the full team, that would include British based players like Jason Chan, Ryan Tongia, Makali Aizue and Menzie Yere.

The British based players mentioned by Evil Homer will most definately be there for the Kumuls trip to Fiji later this month.

On another note it would have been good if Neville Costogen could play for PNG again but I guess thats not going to happen.

He still can if he wants to.

Add the Pommies and Costigan and the team has some substance, certainly enough to knock over the French, the Welsh and take it to England.

The National - Thursday, September 15th 2011

By KEVIN TEME
NORTH Queensland Cowboy’s inform five-eighth Ray Thompson has been named in the PNG PM’s XIII side to take on the Australian PM’s XIII next weekend in Lae.
Thompson believed to be from a mix parentage of Western province in PNG and Australia has been in great form and his call-up to represent PNG will be a bonus for him and his family.
Thompson is among 19 players, along with his Cowboys teammate James Segeyaro, announced by the PNGRFL selectors yesterday.
To add confidence and strength to the team, former coach Adrian Lam has been recalled to coach the team.
He will arrive in the country on Monday.
The team: David Mead (Gold Coast Titans), Elijah Riyong (Vipers), Chris Hogi (Lahanis), Richard Kambo (Wigmen), Albert Patak (Gurias), Dion Aiye (Eagles), Thompson (Cowboys), Gonzilla Urakusie (Lahanis), Segeyaro (North Queensland Cowboys), Rodney Pora (Eagles), David Loko (Mioks), Glen Nami (Lahanis), Paul Aiton (Cronulla Sharks), Charile Wabo (Muruks), Pidi Togap (Gurias), Larsen Marabe (Wigmen), Sameul Sok (Wigmen), Jessie Joe Parker (Wigmen) and Joshia Abavu (Vipers).
Lam in an email to this paper yesterday said time was of the essence considering the team was to play in 10 days.
“Obviously more time would have been preferable but we will do our best,” Lam said.
He also confirmed that he would coach the Telikom PNG Kumuls to take on the Fiji Batis in Fiji next month.
Lam resigned as coach last year citing instability on the PNGRFL board but has returned after the Kumuls poor Four Nations last October.
“I am passionate about the Kumuls and the people of PNG.
“ I have dedicated to making a difference to rugby league in the country and I will do whatever it takes to make us better and earn the respect we deserve from the other countries that we are a great rugby league playing country.
“Like all of PNG, I was sad and disappointed to see our performances last year in the Four Nations tournament after our build up over four years with a great squad and winning the Pacific Cup.
“I want to get us back to where we belong.
“It will take time once again to rebuild what we had, but I want to be here for the long haul over the next couple of years to achieve that,” Lam said.
“Considering we play in 12 days.
“Obviously the more time would have been preferable but we will do our best.”
Meanwhile, the Emerging Kumuls was also named yesterday.
They will take on a state side from Australia as the curtainraiser to the PM’s XIII match.
The emerging side: Michael Gawi (Tigers), Tiger Emere (Tigers), Thompson Teteh (Lahanis), Jack Marcus (Gurias), Sebulon Ragi Junior (Vipers), Bobby Mori (Vipers), Noel Joel (Vipers), Junior Pangogo ( Gurias), Sebastian Pandia (Vipers), Henry Wan (Eagles), Mark Mexico (Tigers), Sonny Daing (Warriors), Sydney Fred (Tigers), Elvis Dick (Lahanis), Whelma Jerrick (Wigmen) and Spiro Mikaive ( Lahanis).
The team will be coached by Peter Danga assisted by Viper’s Shane Morris.
Jason Tassel is the head trainer while the team manager will be Kera Ngaffin.
Chairman of selectors Arnold Krewanty said selection was still open and players not in the squad could still force their way in.
Numapo said there was still room for players on the fringe of selection to break into the team.
He said the selectors would consider the emerging players.
However it is believed that bulk of the players will come from the current PM’s XIII squad.

No place for Tu'u maori (Storm) or Tyson Martin (Cowboys) in that team then?

Good to see the Jnrs game taking place too. Bit of luck there might be some scouts there to have a look. If the local players are ever to have a genuine chance of making it in the NRL then the clubs need to get hold of them young.

The team to go to Fiji hasn't been named yet. But I think all those not in the PMXIII team will be considered.

These include:
Menzie Yere -UK
Jason Chan-UK
Ryan Tongia-UK
Makaili Aizue-UK
Tyson Martin-QLD Cup
Tommy Butterfield-QLD Cup
Joe Bond-QLD Cup
Jack Cooper -QLD Cup
Trevor Exton-QLD Cup
Jay Aston-QLD Cup
Tuu Maori-NSW Cup

Lam happy with team
By HAIVETA KIVIA
Kumuls’ coach Adrian Lam is happy after putting the team through their first training run yesterday.
Lam said the clash against the Australians is all about getting their “feet back into the door” after what happened last year.
He said this squad is the stepping stone to the 2013 World Cup but that is not to say that they will not give the Australians a run for their money, come Sunday afternoon.
He said it was a short week to prepare the team but he is pretty happy that the team is quite new despite having the likes of captain Paul Aiton, backrowers Glen Nami and Pidi Tongap, prop Rodney Pora and interchanges Charlie Wabo, Jesse Joe Parker and Larzen Marabe.
“Yes, we have a very young team and I have not coached some of these youngsters like David Loko and it would be pretty interesting and exciting to coach them,” he said.
Lam reiterated that they are not only looking at the game on Sunday but are looking into the future.
He said the Kumuls forward pack is made up of the local Digicel Cup players but he has brought in lock and captain Aiton from Cronulla Sharks and young North Queensland Cowboys hooker James Segeyaro to give direction.
“I have basically brought Paul Aiton and James Segeyaro to direct the forwards while Cowboys Ray Thompson at halfback and Gold Coast Titans David Mead at fullback will do likewise in the backline,” he said.
Lam said Thompson was identified long time before he broke into Cowboys First Grade side with Segeyaro this year.
“Thompson was one of the four or five youngsters with the Cowboys that we identified several years back and they have trained with the PNG Four Nations sides, so knew of his availability,’ he said.
He said Thompson is going to play a similar role he played with the Cowboys but this time he will be playing at halfback with Mount Hagen Eagles Dion Aiye at five-eighth.
Thompson, Segeyaro, Goroka Lahanis duo Chris Hogi and Gonzilla Urakise, Samuel Sok of Hela Wigmen, Guria backman Albert Patak and Vipers fullback Joshua Abavu will be making their Kumuls debut this Sunday.
Hogi will become a PNG dual International when he runs out on Sunday for the Kumuls after having donned the PNG colours with PNG Pukpuks. He will be following in the footsteps of fellow Papua New Guineans Robert Sio, Makali Aizue and Menzie Yere.
