Albo didn't announce anything, that's a ScoMo era govt initiative for all of the Pacific for Womens Rugby ($1.8M total sponsorship) and $52M total for 4+ years for multiple nations.

You are high if you think a sport as high profile as the NRL is not going to get any press about its funding, finances etc.
This was announced last week

Since countries started touring again they haven't had many if any issues with tourist/athletes.

Surely PNG can get Port Moresby up to that level in the 10-15 years or whatever would be for.

Again I wouldn't go there next but that would surely be part of the conversation
We haven't managed to civilize indigenous communities in our own country and you think we can tame a foreign country?

I just don't think people realise how much cost of living is an issue at the moment.

The Feds committing $250M to the Tas Stadium has plunged that state into political crisis, and polling shows that the majority of Tasmanians see it as a waste of taxpayers money.

And that's a state we're Aussie Rules is number 1, and the stadium would bring jobs and money into their economy.

Imagine trying to sell the concept of a team that may only enrichen the NRL via TV money, and contribute nothing to the Australian tax payer.

It will be unpopular in QLD and NSW let alone hugely unpopular in the AFL states. (because there is literally nothing in this for Aussies)

You think Sky News will miss an opportunity to brain Albo about pork barrelling a multi million dollar sports team?

If it did come to pass imagine the press when one of the PNG team gets inevitability gets busted for something "Our Taxpayer money goes to insert crime here"

And if our sport is mainlined into the Govt teat like that, what sort of shitty politics will we have to get involved in? Will Vlandys have to publicly address the West Papaun situation?
I think it depends how the opposition feel about it as to whether sky news will go at Albo. Dutton might be in Favour of it if it achieves some political gain against China.

Haha right.

supposed to be a rugby league mad country and they can only get 4k at an international? Shows how many can afford to pay to see game.

whilst the gov money is there, but then what?

which should set some massive alarm bells ringing for a club in a third world country, if it took storm 20 years to be profitable (which is highly questionable as they dont release reports so dont know how you know what their bottom line is?) with a big fanbase, new stadium and strong corporate support how will png manage it?
They love rugby league there and aren’t a distant third football code

So the funding should be cut to match the super rugby payment

ah rugby league fans never change

who cares what’s good for the sport if my little club gets hurt

Aren't you the one who constantly posts that AFL gets $x so NRL should also get $x?

Goose and gander lol

If govt want to pss our money away on prof sport that’s on them. And us for voting for them.

The big issue for me is not so much the amount but what the amount means. If a png club isn’t viable without massive amounts of givt money then How can it possibly survive without it?

Maybe it’s viable on 5 million pa extra funding and the arlc gets to pocked the remaining 20 million pa to buy more hotels ?

Well, that’d be a very different scenario and we should def be doing it if that’s the case. But that’s wild speculation with no evidence to be true. Generally govt’s don’t give you money unless they see where it’s going lol

Either way someone is getting 25 million pa and for as long as it lasts it’s going to make a massive difference for rugby league

Correct, but this is PNG, are you sure they know where the past 450 millions have been going?
