In a nation of 17 million people can they find 25k a week to pay 25 to 50 for tickets ? Easy

and you’re going to be shocked by their corporate backing

the png govt could basically order companies to back them or face the consequences

heck the govt could put a mining royalty to support the team if they wanted too
So why don't they do that now? Why would they need the funding?

And I’m not talking about Penrith today I’m talking about Penrith in 67

it was farmland isolated from the city

parramatta too was barely developed.
It was nothing like a third world country.

And all you needed in 67 was a pie and chips and your costs were covered.

for starters they've only got 15k places to sell. And I wouldnt be so sure, its not just finding 15k of them, its finding 15k RL fans who can afford it and having them attend every game. Most NRL tickets are nearer $40-$80. We saw them struggle to get 15k to pay nearly full price to watch the Kumuls.

Maybe, I have my doubts. Its not just sponsorship but box sales at games and the current stadium only has handful to sell.

They could but will they? In a country where the govt cant get roads built and running clean water to a lot of places it would seem unlikely.

A bigger stadium with much better corporates would certainly help but not seen any indication this on the cards. A 35k stadium with tickets at half the normal NRL price might work?

Clubs didnt need to generate $15-20million a year in 1967 to survive.

I dont think there was any plan was there? It was mentioned in the upgrade for the games years ago that it could be enlarged to 25k. Not that it will be or that there was a plan to.
Looks like most of the stands are just scaffolding stands so I suppose if the money was available and they were replaced with proper permanent stands that it could be any size?

Theyve been running at multi billion $ budget deficits for last few years, how are they affording to build one?

Maybe they can get China to build them one :)

“What [the] NRL is basically saying to us is that if there was a successful PNG team [bid], it would enter the competition in 2027; it could be brought forward to 2026, it really is subject to the NRL," Mr Sonk said.”

The next week is when governments put out the news trash. Will we hear an announcement?
I think it is great for Australia and the NRL but a hard political sell in the lesser states.

12 million, marape speak in volumes now, a few years back he wouldn't say the population, just a could be upto ???
Good article, shows how the bid realises that it needs to be self supported eventually, and that the aus govt are helping them set up, but they won't want to be spoon fed after that time, looks like the decade long funding is simply a one off
