“Telstra has completed its takeover of Digicel Pacific on behalf of the federal government, which funded the $US1.6 billion ($2.4 billion) deal fearing it may be picked up by a Chinese state-owned entity and used for espionage.
Inherited from the Morrison government, the new Anthony Albanese-led government confirmed it had contributed $US1.33 billion to the buyout and Telstra a far more modest $US270 million. However, Telstra will get all the ordinary equity and priority dividend payments under the sweetheart deal.”

Now that’s one sweet deal by the Australian govt

Hopefully a National U18s Youth Competition is now not too far away.
Maybe even soon have teams in the Mal Meninga and Cyril Connell cups in QLD
Anyway, maybe someone here might be interested in applying.

Is that to their mobile network or their pay tv service?
Both

They have2.1 subscribers in png

Turns out those png tv rights will be worth way more than Perths

30 percent of png has a mobile phone so up to 6 million have mobiles who can watch nrl if they want too

Pretty funny when people said most people in png don’t have a tv set

There is a very high percentage of poor folk in png that cannot afford electricity and thus a TV, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to sell NRL content to that remaining low percentage who can afford it and want to be part of the fanbase, the are rumours that the population is 18 million, not 12 million that gets thrown around, so if there's 12-13million poor there's obviously a good 4-5 million who can afford or atleast might be interested in the product
NRL content is on it now, and by all accounts widely watched.

How much is that earning currently?

You can have 67 billion people watch on TV. If they don't have a brass razzoo between them it's not going to be very appealing to advertisers.

Unless of course you're advertising gambling. Then png is very appealing.

Smart man Mr V'landys. You can add your own adjectives to describe him depending on your stance on gambling.

PerfRed hates gambling, but if you need to rent something for an overpriced amount, no problem!

Digicel turned over 700 million dollars including an ebit of 150 million solely from png operations

30 % of people in png have a mobile phone

Now here’s the important bit those phones can be used to stream games

It’s funny people making up bs then being wrong with every post

The nrl tv deal in png could easily match the nz one if their games are getting 1 to 1.5 million viewers

Not sure, but adding a team there will surely get the casual well off viewer into a gambling, kayo subscribing fanatic (much like us) it's the dream we are all living, the one PVL is selling, we must now peddle the wears to all the other nations

I don't know if this is the same gambling you are talking about but I also have a Bet365 account which I use on some weekends when I'm feeling lucky to bet on anything from NRL, NBA, NFL, Super Rugby and the English premier league.
This is something that came into PNG about two years. I'm a little slow so only registered this year.
Most of my friends all have accounts too. Country wide it could be in the thousands, hundreds of thousands or maybe a million already.

I said that five pages ago and you`re making sound like something new.

That`s a stretch. The amount they`ll be able to charge will be miniscule, but yes it will add up and will be a handy addition to NRL revenue but not in the NZ broadcast deal range yet.

They don’t have a brass razoo that will appeal to advertisers .., but they will spend every cent they (don’t) have gambling on the NRL? Interesting argument ..
