I think the indications are for NZ2 and PNG/Pacifica, providing the Commonwealth pays for it.

The real advantage of this is that Commonwealth funding of an NRL Team would cause a mass explosion of the heads of fumbleballers. Parity through a Nauruan team would be demanded

Just think about it, what you are saying is that todays govt can dictate what a different party govt in ten years times policy and public spending budget is if they just signed long term contracts. It’s literally not how politics works!

Only way the funding could be guaranteed beyond the life of this govt would be to pay it up front, but govt’s don’t don’t that either. So nrl takes the risk that a govt change sees funding changed. one of the reasons I doubt it will ever happen.

Contract will address that

This is the point. Too many drop kicks here (two in particular) think we have to chase the fumblers to become number 1. Bugger that. We need to play to our strengths not try to copy theirs. Making our game truly regional is a brilliant strategy. We can do it, and they can’t. And the investment will bring a huge return over time.

I think you can do both to be honest.

Yep but the regional approach will drive them up the wall. They’ve already tried and failed. They got laughed out of New Zealand. Their sport is shite.

True. We should try and get as close to them on a national front and then use the international thing to put the game over the top of theirs.

I’ve always wanted three teams based in NZ with a Perth side. You can put this Pacific side in NZ and put a South Island team down the track.

The benefit of these four teams is gives you the most flexibility with TV scheduling. You essentially get to the situation where you can expand without having to simulcast.

Wow I wonder if the internet is still working in Perth ?
You’re an idiot, govt’s don’t sign twenty year, even ten year, contracts EVER. Lucky to get anything over four years.
Never happens, I know I work for a govt funded organisation. Dreaming If you think this govt can commit the next twenty years of govt to funding this project.

Isn’t the Commonwealth about to sign a contract for nuclear Submarines that is deliverable in the 2040s?
Of course they had a similar contract with France that they abrogated when a better deal came along. The damage was close to $5 B for the inconvenience of the French, although no real work had been done
