If the federal govt want to fund an nrl team for us we should bite their hands off and do itItd have to be, at least. how that stacks up if a different govt gets in next is where the risk is in that sort of agreement.
it’s so batsht crazy an idea I want it to happen lol
it won’t but it’d be fun to watch if it did.
Of course it would but the shts and giggles to be had along the way would be worth it.I love PNG and I love their passion for the game, but this idea sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.
How do you mitigate the next govt thinking it was a dumb idea and changing policy? Or does the club only continue to exist at the whim of the incumbent govt?If the federal govt want to fund an nrl team for us we should bite their hands off and do it
in addition to another side which we fund ourselves
but two teams won’t be good news for your beloved afl
PerfOf course it would but the shts and giggles to be had along the way would be worth it.
No money, no home, a weird hybrid mix of cultures, unable to retain a decent team, oh what fun we’d have.
After 20 years they will be self sufficientHow do you mitigate the next govt thinking it was a dumb idea and changing policy? Or does the club only continue to exist at the whim of the incumbent govt?
Govts change every few years, not every twenty years. After 20 years they will be self sufficient
you know like the cowboys became after they were a basket case when being admitted
Have you heard of a contractGovts change every few years, not every twenty years.
An incumbent govt can not legally commit a future govt to its policies.Have you heard of a contract
do they have those in perf
Breach of contractAn incumbent govt can not legally commit a future govt to its policies.
That’s not how politics works. Legally a govt can’t sign a contract that incumbers a future govt to its policies, especially for 20 years!Breach of contract
Wanna bet ?That’s not how politics works. Legally a govt can’t sign a contract that incumbers a future govt to its policies, especially for 20 years!
It literally happens all the time at state and fed level. I’ve been on the receiving end of it in our business. Yes there’s usually a compensation involved but it’s never close to the contract value. Google roe 8 Highway, it’s an example of WA govt backflipping on a previous govt contract.Wanna bet ?
if govts cold just get out of contracts when a new govt comes in do you know what havoc that would cause
Why is there compensation involved if govts can’t sign contracts and be liable for themIt literally happens all the time at state and fed level. I’ve been on the receiving end of it in our business. if you were correct you would have govt’s laying out public spending policy for future govt’s, and that doesn’t happen.
Just think about it, what you are saying is that todays govt can dictate what a different party govt in ten years times policy and public spending budget is if they just signed long term contracts. It’s literally not how politics works!Wh

omg you can be dense sometimes

Only way the funding could be guaranteed beyond the life of this govt would be to pay it up front, but govt’s don’t don’t that either. So nrl takes the risk that a govt change sees funding changed. one of the reasons I doubt it will ever happen
In any case V’landy has shown the future direction. NRL will be an East coast and Australasian competition.
it makes sense - expansion into an area where there is an established base and logistically easier.
Why put teams into cities that don’t want them
