Perth with pasifika & nz2 makes no sense. Just increases travel costs. That's why Perth won't happen

I said it might happen. I don’t say anything will or won’t happen. That’s the difference between a honest person and somebody like well you.

We have had news articles (print and TV) mentioning Perth, Adelaide, a second New Zealand team, PNG, Pasifika and QLD.

There’s also a direct quote for you

“If we want to compete with the AFL, we have to be truly national and be representative in every state. I’m not saying we expand right now. But over the next five, eight or 10 years, we should look to go to 20 years”

If I wanted to cherry-pick things like you do, you could say well that means they are going to put Adelaide and Perth and another side in, couldn’t I?

But essentially nobody knows (least of all you) and everything mentioned in various dispatches is an option.

The thing is west of Broken Hill the only towns of considerable size are Perth, Adelaide and Darwin. There are small subregions of NSW bigger in population than the entirety of the NT. Someone described them as desert states, which they pretty much are. But Perth and Adelaide need to be part of a 20 team comp.

Very good synopsis.

Essentially everything is an option from the article.

That is 100% not true.

The cowboys are now giving each of those Qcup teams money instead of players as they beleived it wasn't fair on the clubs to parachute players in at will last minute every week and instead let them all come through the Blackhawks for continuity and consistency. Players from each club will also be given a chance for a trial and train to 30 spot in the off season.

The cowboys league club. is also looking at building a new facility in Cairns as per the recent financial report.

When I see AFL fans mention the Bargearsei Line, it reminds me of when Republicans in the USA post maps of red counties. It looks impressive but then you remember land doesn’t vote. And in Australia’s case, sand in the desert doesn’t attend games or watch television.

The majority of Australia’s population already has an NRL team. Only 5.25 million (SA, WA, NT and TAS don’t). The other 20 million have at least one club in their state, territory or nearest regional city. Then on top of that we have Auckland.

Conversely, the AFL has no teams in regional NSW, ACT or outside of SE QLD. That population is about 5.5 million combined. Population wise we cover about the same amount.

Yeah just keep throwing money at them, when the next hime game being played there lol, no wonder they want their own team, fmd they are 3-4 hours drive away, and will only go there when someone else take a game there, like souths..
Hell parra have a brand new commbank stadium, yet they go to darwin, penrith go to bathurst, what do you guys do drop the qcup teams and throw money at them like tigers do at campbelltown

As for this PNG team based in Cairns talk, I’d rather see the Cowboys get a decent stadium in Cairns and play more games there.

The NRL should go to a 27 week season with each club playing magic round, 12 games home and away and two other “neutral” game venues chosen by the NRL to target other areas. Cowboys could then split 14 matches across Townsville and Cairns. Say 7-7, 8-6, 9-5 etc.

As for Pacifika, I don’t think Cairns locals will support it as most of them are existing Cowboys fans. Players also won’t want to live in PNG except for PNG locals.

However, a Pacific team could work split between PNG and Fiji with players based in Suva. Suva has the resort infrastructure and gated communities to provide players with level of security and lifestyle they expect. You could split it 6 games in Suva and 6 in Port Moresby. That team would probably be the deathknell for Fijian rugby too.

The proposal is for them to be housed in cairns so that avoids issues of trying to get players to live in png

why wouldn’t they support the team ? Cowboys don’t play home games in their city and just give them lip service

they are Townsville centric
