The proposal is for them to be housed in cairns so that avoids issues of trying to get players to live in png

why wouldn’t they support the team ? Cowboys don’t play home games in their city and just give them lip service

they are Townsville centric
perhaps because Townsville has a shiny new stadium?

While we are here discussing new markets in PNG, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, New Zealand South Island , Perth, Adelaide Cairns and Darwin, Perth reds idol, Cover Up Sweep Sweep Gil, is battling against the people of Hobart (also known as ‘Slowbart’)!

How politically popular and sustainable would funding a PNG side be?

It's going to get all the AFL states offside and not likely to be supported by the opposition, especially with all the economic pain on the horizon in the next few years.

Not to mention the crazy culture clash of trying to smudge PI into PNG.

I think this option is "pie in the sky" at best.

Fun fact: there are more people living in the Richmond-Tweed area in NSW than Hobart.

Always hard to know with rugby league given total lack of long term vision and strategy for the game. Either this batsht crazy idea will get up and somehow a club representing 5 plus countries and cultures base in a totally seperate country will happen, or more likely Vlandys is paying lip service to govt, getting some headlines for the game on the back of the dolphins launch and nothing will come of it.

So what was the reason before 2020 when they played at the dump that was dairy farmers

The Willows (it was last called Dairy Farmers in 2012, and 1300 Smiles for the last Decade) was still a better a much better venue then the Leichardt, Campbelltown, Belmore, Dolphin Oval, Olympic Park. Not that you would know as you never went there

Townsville is centrally located within the NQ catchment and the easiest location for all supporters to get to.

Cairns has nothing of similar comparison and is remote from most of the catchment

Guess that’s why the mayor is so keen to host a png bid

How would you rate it on a scale of 1 to 'NZ can't spend there cap they are swimming in so much money"?
Given all your comments the past few months on this the fact that you’ve got Nick politis Peter vlandys and Anthony albanese support this vs you on the other hand you know which side I’m on

As you know local governments mean f**k all in the context of stadiums and funding. And in his decade as Mayor he has spent nothing on local RL. And the CDRL has noticeably gone backwards in this time.

So whatever sleepy Bob said 8 years ago has as much weight as your views on NZ currency exchanges.

It wouldn’t hurt though for the Cowboys to sacrifice 2 games a year to play there and then have 2 other teams play neutral games there against the Cowboys. You could then sell a 4 game Cairns Cowboys membership package.

I'd be more interested in you rebutting the points I raised then farting into an echo chamber, then arguing that some rich prick from the Roosters" is now the world's foremost expert on PNG.
