The proposal is for them to be housed in cairns so that avoids issues of trying to get players to live in png

why wouldn’t they support the team ? Cowboys don’t play home games in their city and just give them lip service

they are Townsville centric
I agree that Cowboys give Townsville a lot of lip service. However, Cairns population are primarily Cowboys and Broncos supporters. Imagine if instead it was a Western Australian team based in Cairns playing half their games in Perth. It makes about as much sense really.

Lmao remember a few days ago you said they could add a lot of teams fast and I said no chance

damn you mugab your on a golden run
Money and being able to budget clubs expenditure can outline how many teams are able to expand to

It gets around the issues of a png team trying to get players to live in png

plus it’s another qld team too

the travel to png from cairns is very doable

”Why are we living in Cairns?”

”Because PNG is very dangerous. Also, you’re playing multiple games there each season.”

I mean I can still see non-PNG players still being apprehensive about joining the club.

Yes technically it’s another QLD team but its as much a QLD team as Western Pirates based in Cairns would be. I agree though the travel is doable.

I just think if the NRL actually want the Pacific angle to work, there are plenty of gated resort communities in Suva that would be better. I get the feeling this idea stems from having more bidders than potential team slots, so they’ve gone for a hybrid version.

Yeah just keep throwing money at them, when the next hime game being played there lol, no wonder they want their own team, fmd they are 3-4 hours drive away, and will only go there when someone else take a game there, like souths..
Hell parra have a brand new commbank stadium, yet they go to darwin, penrith go to bathurst, what do you guys do drop the qcup teams and throw money at them like tigers do at campbelltown
yeah sure, take NQ home games to cairns and make the people from mackay drive 10 hours round trip to go to a game.

Tvl works because it's central for everyone in NQ. 40% of our fans travel over an hour to Cowboys games, the ones that live west and south and Tvl you've also now added 4+ hours to their hour commute if we take games to Cairns It's why the club doesn't take regular season games there.

We also don't need to take games elsewhere because we currently make a profit, you think Parra does it out of goodwill?

I’d prefer if it was biased in png but it is what it is

Michael seale (ex titans) came up with the birds of prey which was a combined Darwin and png bid which I always thought was a good idea

then I heard about the cairns idea and they said it’s actually much close to png and I’ve liked it

100%

The same as the Bears thing. We want the Bears back but we can’t put them in North Sydney. We also need to go to markets outside of NSW and QLD. So what we will do is try and kill two birds with one stone. Move them somewhere else and play a couple of games at NSO. Everybody is happy then.

Vlandys comment about png has to be announced by 2025 I think is because they don’t want it happening near the next election so announcing it sooner takes the heat of albo plus gets the contracts locked in in case albo loses the next election

Why would you not use Crocodiles for a joint Darwin-PNG team?

If memory serves Darwin is just slightly smaller than Cairns but you’re still only talking about 150k people.
