Ive got no issue with the occasional NRL game being played in Port Moresby but that should be the extent of their involvement in the NRL for all the reasons people have stated.
A PNG side is dumb par excellence , so is a Pacific side.
let the Australian Govt fight its cold war with China in the region , its not anything the NRL needs to be involved in & wasting an expansion team would be a decision that could cruel the code for decades.

Pacific players can continue to be brought into the NRL systems to play for clubs in Aust & NZ , we just need to continue to wave the carrot of a " very" good living being available to young Pacifika men with the present 17 clubs & the 3 we will introduce in the next 10 years.

Player development, yes except the team wont actually be in PNG, who will fund the improved development pathways needed in PNG and how will this club that is goign to be very hard work to play for going to retain the best players?

Top level team in ntl will attract talent to sport. Rugby know this & created their own pasifika teams already.

How do you figure that? If they are based in Cairns they will be travelling cairns-PNG every home game and then Cairns to everywhere else every away game. They will literally be in the air every weekend. The PNG travel is international so 2hrs check in, thats a 3.5hr travel time just for home games each way. Cairns to Sydney is a change in Brisbane most flights so your looking at 7.5hr travel time there with a 1hr before flight arrival at airport. Not sure you've thought this argument through! Maybe you think they'll buy a private jet with all their govt money?

Rugbys pasifika team are a great example of why you wouldn't do it! 14 games 1 win -256 points. No crowds.
They make the Dragons look good!
