Imagine if the Australian government directly funded a pro comp in Pacific with this money...
6 PNG clubs, 2 Fiji clubs, 1 Tonga, 1 Samoa
6 million grants with a 4 million cap spend.
Administered by the NRL, all night games on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday- TV deal with fox fills the week.
After gate takes, merch and tv deal, it'll be self sustainable after 10 years or even making a profit and if it wasn’t surly that would be something that the government would be happy to continue to tip in.
All those players and trainers in those countries have a direct effect on their community and their economies.
Not a few washed up Aussies and kiwis but 300 players within those countries directly lifted out of poverty playing Rugby league.

Why would fox not only pay for a tv deal, but also have all the related costs to broadcast some minor comp in a bunch of 3rd world countries?

Oh and you think 6 PNG clubs are going to get a combined 36m per year in gate takings and merch in one of the poorest countries on the planet?

Don't worry this would never happen, one 1st grade team is enough

Even fitzstupid who hates league thinks it’s a great idea
You'd have to be thick as pigshit to consider that article anything other than a massive shit canning of RL, the Vegas experiment and PNG.

Remember he was the ring leader in getting the NSW stadium funding withdrawn, he clearly has PNG funding in his sights now.

(Like most of us predicted)

I've always suspected that Fitzsimmons likes to collect his own bodily juices in a decanter, then sniff them, swirl them around in his mouth and spit them out like a wine tasting.

From that article the 600 million investment will be allocated as follows

1. png nrl team 300 million
2. Nrl license fee 50 million
3. Rugby league pathways schools etc 250 million.

that’s going to be a very strong nrl team
That article you posted says nothing about funding.

You would have to be stoned off your head if you think the Feds are going to spend $250M on RL development in PNG.

Most of it will be a token "entry fee" for expansion bids to bribe the current clubs with

So of that Australian taxpayer money:
$100 million for a compound.
$100 million for private jets/first class travel for PNG officials to go on fact finding tours
$50 million for licence
$50 million for 'consultation' fees.

That leaves only $300 million for the PNG politicians and league officials to skim off the top.

Is that going to be enough?

Don't underestimate third world corruption to line the pockets of politicians for item 3. Other than that, I personally suspect that once the tap runs dry, the team will fold.

Bet they find it easier to sign players than Canberra

even Pommie don’t want to play there

Is that the best you can come up with? A red herring. It’s a dumb idea and the only argument for it is that we are getting some government money
