It's the Newcastle Knights, you still get to collect your fat pay cheque and have everyone in town blow smoke up your arse even if you phone it in all year and come last.

They've said all along that he wasn't suffering from any symptoms and was basically held out as precaution, it's possible that he legitimately wasn't advised not to drink.

Still a terrible look for a captain to be getting caught being kicked out of nightclub bathroom cubicles the same night his team is putting up another pathetic display elsewhere, and more evidence that he isn't even close to ready to lead a team. Unfortunately I don't see any other strong leaders in the playing group, nor the coaches box.

Parr has his work cut out for him.

Brailey 1, Frizell 2.

Brailey is the obvious one in the hard-working coaches pet type of way but not sure his standing as a player commands the level of respect you want from your captain. Frizell seems more of a quiet, reluctant leader. Agree they are the 2 that stick out, but I view them ideally as leadership group type roles rather than the face of the club.

I don’t need a “face of the club”.

I need someone who works their arse off, takes shit seriously, and inspires others to do the same.

Brailey was co-captain last season and still officially named club captain this season, Ponga being the team captain. I've seen no evidence to suggest he inspires people to do those things. Frizell acts and performs the same whether he's captain or not, and again I've seen no evidence that he inspires people to do those things.

They may be the best options available to us, doesn't mean they are good options overall.

Of my 3 criteria, I’d suggest Ponga by comparison would score significantly less than either of the other 2.
But yes, I’d prefer to have a Cameron Smith in charge.

To be fair, I needed a few drinks watching our performance against the Broncos too.

Ponga should learn from Munster and stop drinking all together (during the season anyway). It does wonders for your health.

This whole thing could end up being a blessing in disguise for Ponga and the club. Hopefully behind closed doors, some of the senior management like Parr will be having serious discussions with him about how this all looks and the way he needs to behave moving forward if he wants to continue to be a marquee player. Ultimately this feels like something that was probably going to happen at some stage and given we're already out of finals contention it's not like it's derailing a good season or anything, might as well get all the shit out of the way in one season rather than more stuff like this happening next year for example.

Something similar happened with Munster during the off season with his well publicized partying, then he takes it on board and is having his best ever season as a result. Some players need a bit of public scrutiny to wake up and realize what they need to be doing. I'm hoping that this whole experience helps Ponga's growth as a person and a player.

I think Ponga is a borderline great player but seems immature. Don’t like him as Captain, leave him to play his game, his press conferences with Obi are a waste, smirking and smiling and that’s when we’ve been thrashed. For the good of the Team and Club change things, let Brailey continue for this year and then see who steps up to the plate.

Immature and doesn't exactly breath rugby league.

I wish he were the captain to watch the game on Saturday and hurt with the team and identify things while watching to help us out when he returns.

If he had Jake Trbojevic's heart, good lord he'd be something special then.
