Hook and Hunt are contracted for next year, and will likely remain for 23. Not to mention sacking the club captain and head coach now when both assistant coaches are being replaced hardly creates or sends a strong positive signal to our roster or would be recruits.
Seriously Hard Yards- both are a cancer on the club- need to cut the snakes head as we say up this way. Hunts a f**kin show pony whos talking to other clubs before Nov deadline and dont get me started on Griffen who on purpose kept the 3 lads back for his mates benifit e f**kin g AM! Plain to see

Nuh. Raiders tactic. Started doing it in 2019, they were the only team doing it, and they got to the grand final on the back of it. I hate the rule. If there's more than 1 in the tackle to start with, you shouldn't be allowed to strip.
Yep they had a call where you saw the players drop off simultaneously split second before reefing it out of a players arms because the player relaxed thinking tackle over
NRL let it go cause it added an excitement twist to the game
Remember though LAM in that 85 mins from a GF game...unbelievable

Impressive rant
@Mojo
Like your rant also...except the first paragraph all teams do it cause they reckon it is easier to defend their goal line than 20-40 out.
Why?. Because they stand offside (moreso out wider) and stifle the attack and refs do nothing most of the time, some teams are happy to give away a 6 again or two.
But that tactic only seems to work for the better drilled defensive sides most of the time

You sure know how to hurt a guy BLM. I still remember Murray stripping LAM. I couldn’t believe it. normally LAM had that one arm lock on ball and never lost it…until that fateful night.

I know Mary was coach but also if Tariq and Gareth survived being injured in Broncos slaughter semi final we would have won against south’s and the comp! We are always a boggy side for roosters.

If Hc#unt is around next year - I surely hope his not -than they have to take his captaincy off him as his not an on field leader. Give it to someone everyone will follow like JBD who is respected and be good mentor for younger players at the club- anybody would be better than Hunt!

Following the emergence of several sides in the running for his signature, the St. George Illawarra Dragons have increased their offer to star halfback Ben Hunt in a bid to retain the club's marquee man.

Hunt made the move from Red Hill to Wollongong ahead of the 2018 NRL season, leading the Red V to the finals in his first season at the club, a feat he hasn't accomplished again since.

Currently on a reported $1.25 million per season deal, Hunt is aware he'll be forced to take a pay-cut from that astronomical figure due to his age, set to turn 33 in the opening weeks of next season.

The Dally M favourite, Hunt was initially offered $700,000-a-year to remain at the club, however due to the rival interest from the Gold Coast, Canterbury, the Dolphins and more, the Dragons appear set to raise their offer by at least $100,000 per season.

Speaking on NRL360, journalist David Riccio believes the Dragons are set to snare their target.

“All my mail suggests St George Illawarra are in the box seat to extend his future by at least another two seasons. He’s not off contract next year - he’s still at the Saints in 2023 and the contract extension is related to 2024-25," Riccio said.

“I firmly believe it’s up to around $800,000 now. I think if they can get to around $800-850K I think they get the deal done. I think Hunt stays.”

The news comes as massive relief for St. George Illawarra fans, following reports of star recruit Jayden Su'A mulling over a release from the club to join Wayne Bennett in 2023.

Set to play his 300th NRL game midway through 2023, Hunt indicated he was content at the Dragons, and with just one regular season game left and potentially a Dally M and World Cup to win, there's no rush for the halfback to sign on.

“Every day there seems to be something popping up,” Hunt said, per AAP.

“I’ll just wait until the season’s over, I’ve only got one more week.

“We’ll get it sorted out and we’re working through it. I enjoy the club and I’m happy to stay."

St. George Illawarra officials will be eager to have their marquee player sign on the dotted line sooner rather than later, with Hunt free to talk to rivals in just two months time.

FFS, whilst we hunger for more 3rd party the club blinks and pays 300k more on our offer to his retirement fund. Just got a bad feeling that : GOOD NEWS: Bud gets plenty of chances to play 7 from next year on BAD NEWS : Hunt struggles to play more than 50% of games due to injury as his body succumbs to old age.

The Dragons badly require the services of a dynamic attacking half who can provide a link between the forwards and backs - a bit of a ‘ will of the wisp ‘ .

I fear that Benny’s legs at 33 years simply will not be up to the task . The dragons have a number of youngsters who could do that although they will need time to find their feet . And I am not referring to the occasional game in the top grade , but as part of the run on side on a weekly basis .

Each of the other 15 teams do this , but here at the Dragons the coach appears to select them spasmodically and then it’s back to sit on the bench . They are not gaining the necessary experience required by constantly pulling splinters from their posteriors on that bench .

As so many have said in the past it is time for Griffin to bite the bullet and move Hunt to hooker thus allowing the youngsters their opportunity to play in the halves and by so doing forming solid combinations with one another .

Only my 2 bobs worth .
