Possible new West Sydney Stadium?

This will never happen. The government is in debt at state and federal level, there is no money.

Are you sharing brain cells with Bulldog Force?

Governments in debt don't just cancel *any* growth plans. If a project (like this one) has enormous potential for return on investment, they'll look at funding it.

Govt's can't have it both ways

they can't tell clubs they'll be no money to upgrade suburban venues & that all clubs will be part of a centralised stadium strategy
then say .... but we can't afford this & that !!

the NRL has just said it may well look into investing in Stadia like the AFL has

here is a perfect opportunity
get the Govt ( both state & Federal) to build it & then pay it off over 30 years like the AFL is with Etihad

if its located at Liverpool it will be perfect for all 4 Sydney teams in the West & the Wanderers

has to happen
& soon............

No new stadium will have "enormous potential" above and beyond what the current stadiums have.

They also know if they built a new stadium they'd be hurting their investment in ANZ stadium. So whatever potential they got from it would be offset by losing money on ANZ.

They're not going to spend hundreds of millions on a 10th stadium in Sydney when we already have too many.

The vast majority of people aren't diehard sport fans, most people would rather the money go into hospitals or schools than this, it wouldn't be a vote winner.

The AFL have obtained (conned) millions in State and Federal funding for years and years.

The NRL should join with the FFA and lobby for this to be built. It would be great for people that live in the area. It would also provide the proper facilities that our codes require unlike ANZ.

The Tigers if they are smart should try to get a centre of excellence built for them by local, state and federal governments at the same time near the new stadium. Has anyone seen the facility that GWS got at Hombush (it is amazing compared to most NRL clubs facilities), how much government money did they get for this plus having the showground upgraded even although ANZ is right next door? This is were AFL have been way ahead of us for many years and in NSW especially. The NRL should be demanding that we get such facilities built.

I would rather my taxpayer dollars go this project than all the AFL projects they have funded recently.

The Bulldogs I'm sure would love it. Tigers might play a couple of games there a year. Can't see Eels fans wanting to play there and most certainly Panthers people won't be wanting to travel to Liverpool.

Tigers would play more than a few. The majority I would think.

Dogs would obviously be based there. Wanderers also.

Aside from that you'd probably have all the western Sydney teams finals games there.

And perhaps a few eels & panthers games.

As discussed in the other thread on stadiums, liverpool is a terrible place for a stadium. It is a hole, nowhere near the centre of Sydney and hard to get to. Won't happen!

This will be great. It'll give an 'up-yours' to GWS because we're making a stadium for NRL and Soccer purposes only (can't see Rugby Union being a permanent tenant). It's exactly what we need in that very location!

Gotta admit, I won't be going to Liverpool for a Eels home game.

Why? Looking at that stadium surely you would rather watch a game in a packed stadium with a roof like that than parra stadium, especially at night or in inclement weather? And as a fan of the club if it meant better corporate sales and much increased revenue why would you not want your club to be financially able to compete with the big boys? I would think for this type of development to be viable you would need Tigers, Eels and Bulldogs as well as WSW as anchor tenants.

I hope I never see money wasted on something like this.
Sydney deserves a state of the art large capacity rectangular stadium, but not at Liverpool.
As Bette Davis said, 'What a dump'.

For the 1 billionth time it is not meant to be a stadium for the centre of Sydney. It will be a stadium that will be central for all WESTERN SYDNEY (rectangular) sporting teams.

They're not going to spend hundreds of millions on a 10th stadium in Sydney when we already have too many.

Having 9 stadiums is exactly why the state government has put its foot down about multiple stadium funding.

Higher level governments will be in favour because it will reduce their future investment obligations by up to 4x. In this example instead of having Penrith City Council, Campbelltown City Council, Parramatta City Council, and Canterbury City Council coming cap in hand every 2nd decade asking state and federal government's to match their investments, they only need to be occupied with the upkeep of 1 stadium.

And we all know building 1 new place of modern standard has infinitely more longevity value than patching and repairing 4x crappy stadiums. (I'm fully aware the Bulldogs moved to ANZ a long time ago, which only goes to show they have already future-proofed their club).

The Bulldogs I'm sure would love it. Tigers might play a couple of games there a year. Can't see Eels fans wanting to play there and most certainly Panthers people won't be wanting to travel to Liverpool.

As a Panthers fan, if the alternative is to travel to Parramatta for home games, Liverpool will be more palatable since it is not the existing base of another team. Granted it will mean a struggle to draw crowds in any period where they fail to make finals in 17 out of the last 22 years.

Well if not Liverpool then how would Cabramatta or Fairfield go?? (serious question, ive never been in either area)

If a new ground was to be build, it would have to be in the South-West (Liverpool area) or the far-West (Blacktownish). It's not that im against a stadium in Parra, but being so close to Homebush it would be more worth while investing wholly in the latter area and lobbying for the proposed lightrail line into the Parra CBD...
