Strange every other state has managed to build decent stadiums AND still build hospitals, schools etcetera. You get most of our fricking GST ffs, stop spending it on afl and spend it on your most popular sport.

No other city is approaching 10 stadiums that are used by 1 professional sport. No other city has more than 2 stadiums used by 1 sport.

And the AFL got a much smaller investment than this hypothetical 40,000 seater because that one relatively small investment brought an entire franchise to the city and all the jobs that come with it.

Which is why Perth is building up its rectangular stadium. Which is why Melbourne was able to build a quality rectangular stadium. Same goes for the GC with its new oval AND rectangular stadiums.

Those stadiums helped bring entire franchises to a city.

A new rectangular stadium in Sydney would not deliver any new NRL team to Sydney

Another reason all this won't happen in a generation, everyone at the NRL from Grant to Smith to Greenberg are all in when it comes to ANZ. If there was a viable chance to have a 40,000 seater in western sydney built, would they be going all in with ANZ?

More and more teams are signing long term deals with ANZ because that is where Sydney rugby league's long term future is.

You shouldnt say it like that, it suggests the liberal party is actually doing a better job.

At least the corrupt f*ckers knew how to get shit done...

Well the liberal government does have someone as treasurer who has a background in economics.

BTW , what exactly did the corrupt f*ckers get done ?

Where is the money supposed to come from. The majority of people are not diehard NRL fans, or diehard fans of sport in general. Roads are crying out for funding, hospitals, schools, and people think they'll build a 10th stadium in a city where there is already a 80k, a 50k, and about 7 20k grounds. Please.

You're talking about the height of luxury spending when governments don't have money to afford the necessities.

As much as id like to not call you an idiot again, well....

The purpose of building this 10th stadium is so they wont have to pay for 7 of the 9 others ever again. You are absolutely right when you say no other city has this many stadiums for the one sport, but thats because all of the other cities have decent centralised grounds, which Sydney doesnt have.

Once this is build, Leichardt, Kogarah and all the other leftovers will be turned into parks or apartment buildings or whatever they want, and they wont keep draining money that could have gone to proper stadiums or other community needs.

This new stadium probably will happen and if it goes it will benefit everyone, including the state budget guys...

If there is a future rectangle stadium built in Sydney and it is a big IF, it will be at Blacktown/Eastern Creek or Liverpool. Simples

If it came down to a choice between Liverpool or Blacktown (which should be the 2 frontrunners), im actually more inclined to support Blacktown now....

- Panthers should never play a regular season home game further east than Blacktown, otherwise what is the point of them existing at?? They will still cater for their current locality and be far more enticing for those traveling from the east. Still operate out of Penrith Park to keep their traditions alive but this would be a better location for games.

- Eels should split between Blacktown (mostly) and ANZ (big games). Operate out of Parra Stadium or thereabouts to keep their traditions and play out of better stadiums...

- Tigers could definitely get support in Blacktown if they were so inclined, but they would be better off playing predominately out of ANZ.

The only problem with this would be that it would isolate the South-West, but based on this week and the last few seasons that not a huge lost. Still, to remedy this, base the Tigers in the neck of the SW (Liverpool or Fairfield) and direct a good portion of their community work and advertising down Campbeltown way.

Plus we have had another 3 years of the same ineptitude from O'Barrell.

Offarrel is light years ahead of the previous government.

At least we are finally seeing progress on the north west rail link , we also have a universal electronic ticketing system in place which the former government stuffed up several times. ( costing the state over 100 million with no progress whatsoever)

The worst thing the current government could have done is rush into several projects given the state of the NSW budget.

The NW rail link is an absolute joke with different sized trains to the rext of the system. Also BOF said we don't need double decker trains, typical Liberal merkin.
