So how can we defend it ? @hineyrulz says we should. Cannonball tackle I assume. He attacked the knees/legs of a player who was upright in a tackle. It was dangerous and dumb (5th tackle penalty)

Yep. Everything's either totally great or totally shit.

My only issue is that it was supposed to be outlawed but i see it every second tackle these days and was surprised that we got penalised for it.
Are you allowed to do it or not? Or is it just another one of those things that only we get pinged for???
You can’t do it. What you are allowed to do is come in at the hips and then slide down to the legs / knees. Moses just went straight in at the legs

He wasn't happy with the effort against Melbourne. I agree that's been our only poor effort this year.People are having extreme reactions to results because we have no faith in the direction of the coach and that is based in part on him being a terrible communicator with the fan base. He really just says nothing to us except "I am happy with the effort" which upsets fans who have watched the team get out enthused by almost everyone since the Bankwest opening.
When I see a BA press conference I can see why the players have below NRL standards of enthusiasm. Every press conference he has ever done was half arsed.
It was a joke Joyce. We never defend anything. Especially around the ruck.So how can we defend it ? @hineyrulz says we should. Cannonball tackle I assume.
You'd have to be a f**king idiot to think every loss is from a lack of effort. Sometimes the opposition is just too good.

And 14 blokes playing for their careers.“Lack of effort” in my opinion is when the opposition out enthuses you. We have been clearly out enthused in most games. I just don’t get how that happens when you are coming off a wooden spoon season like ours.
I recall commenting earlier this year that after many years of being inept in the play the ball area and ruck defence that we actually won the ruck. Im puzzled as to why this effort and determination has once again dissappeared. He wasn't happy with the effort against Melbourne. I agree that's been our only poor effort this year.

The effort against Newcastle was very good, especially the first 25mins.He wasn't happy with the effort against Melbourne. I agree that's been our only poor effort this year.

We have had 5 wins you know. Or do you only post about the 5 losses ?The effort against Newcastle was very good, especially the first 25mins.
I disagree we were out-enthused in any game other than in Newcastle and Brisbane. In all the others we at least matched them.“Lack of effort” in my opinion is when the opposition out enthuses you. I think it's definitely the case.I recall commenting earlier this year that after many years of being inept in the play the ball area and ruck defence that we actually won the ruck. Im puzzled as to why this effort and determination has once again dissappeared.
Im a keep watcher but ive never thought myself a great observer of tactics. That said, our defensive structure this year appears to be accomodating greater width which has also been a major past issue. Could it be our poorer middle this season is a result of less compression of our line? Any thoughts Poo?
I was replying to the fpost from Pou saying all our efforts have been good bar the Melbourne game. Which as usual was horse shit.We have had 5 wins you know. Or do you only post about the 5 losses ?

We played them in Brisbane.Do you mean Melbourne?
There was one staggered kick chase, which was only really exposed because they scored. Other than that I don't think our effort was down. The Dragons started at top speed and ran out of puff (no pun intended). Nobody can give 100% effort over 80 minutes, despite the cliches. There is always an element of conservation. The trick is giving as much as you can without dying in the arse later on. This is what Arthur means by 'front loading effort'. You obviously don't want to leave too much in the tank early or you end up wasting energy backpedaling and scrambling in defence. It's a balancing act, and a big part of why you need experienced leaders in your team. These are the merkins who recognise when it's time to lift intensity and when it's time to slow it down.We were definitely out enthused by the Dragons for the first 30 which was baffling.
