In fairness, letter of intent would hold value. PJ Marsh famously signed a letter of intent on an offer to the Warriors, tried to back out of it not realising he had infact been secured by the Warriors, and then obviously ended up coming up and being a friggen legend.
A LOI actually means nothing these days...

Because the NRL don't register the contract until June... So players can back out of any deals until that point... For example Tedesco with Canberra, papalii with parramatta.

It makes absolutely no sense legally... But NRL clubs seem to toe the line with it..

Vatuvei, Matulino & Hurrell are all off contract arent they.

They could easily offload Tomkins back to Wigan if he wanted to go home.
Likewise Townsend.

Matagi isnt going anywhere he would be good value - plays a whole year and doesn get paid that much

Yeah, I didn't mention them as they'd be guys I'd be signing up pronto.

Matagi I'm totally happy with as a fifth prop on bugger all coin. Ideally he'd play 10-12 NRL games, or even less if a strong first four were all fit. Wind up him and let him loose every now and then. But at the moment I don't see him as an effective NRL prop across a full season. Certainly we'll know after 2015 - hope he proves me wrong.

Every signing before the deadline (I'm having a mental blank, June 30?) is actually a LOI, since the NRL will not register contracts with new clubs for the next season before that date. Part of the legacy of the old anti-tampering stuff is that the current club has until that date to get the player to change his mind and re-commit to the club. If Foran DOES sign a LOI with another club, I find it very doubtful he would backflip - Manly would likely have to start the process of bringing in a replacement immediately, or risk missing the best alternatives (Maloney, Keary, Sezer & Townsend are the current first choice 6's off contract for 2016).

Anyway the situation seems far from clear cut.. I'm hearing that both Parra & Manly are very confident of getting Foran signed up for 2016. I doubt he's committed anywhere yet. He may end up at the Warriors (doubtful - but never say never), but I'd safely say all this stuff about him being already signed up is rubbish.

We'd be f**king geniused if we let any of those three go unless they really didn't want to be there.

Vatuvei has his faults but he's a great finisher and probably the best early tackle metre eater in the competition. Plus he's a bona fide club legend who is massively popular with the fans, hes worth as much off the field as on it, along with SJ he's one of the two players who are basically the face of the club.
We all know what Hurrell is capable of, its just maturity and training ethic that can hold him back from being one of the greats. He absolutely needs to be perservered with as a priority.
And Matulino is one of the premier props in the game when he's on- the only question with him is whether he wants to stay.

Manu was our second best player in 2014. He and Laumape had a great combination going until Ngani got himself suspended, then the wheels fell off with the busted arse Manu got inside him after that.

All the talk over the Tasman is that if Foran isn't on his way to Parramatta already, he's got the GPS dialled in to head west.

The Warriors hope Kieran Foran will want to move across the Tasman because the club, as flamboyant co-owner Eric Watson says, is about to embark on a period of excellence.

Foran is being chased by a number of clubs, including Canterbury, Parramatta, the Sydney Roosters, Manly and the Warriors, and has said he wants his future beyond 2015 settled before the new season kicks off. He's contracted to Manly until the end of the 2015 NRL season.

The Warriors have money to spend, having offloaded Feleti Mateo, Jayson Bukuya and Dane Nielsen early from their contracts and have identified Foran as their No1 target to play alongside fellow Kiwis playmaker Shaun Johnson. Watson is hoping that prospect, as well as a stable front office and the coaching talents of Andrew McFadden, will tempt the 24-year-old Foran to Mt Smart Stadium.

"In management and coaching I've got [new chief executive] Jim Doyle and Andrew McFadden," Watson said during a visit to the club's Mt Smart Stadium headquarters yesterday.

"Imagine having Kieran Foran and Shaun Johnson on the field as well.

Asked how negotiations with Foran's management were progressing, Watson remained tight-lipped, saying: "The Warriors are about to embark on a period of excellence, of hopefully greatness. It would be amazing to have Kieran be a part of that."

Watson caused a media storm the day after the Kiwis' Four Nations win over Samoa when he sent out a premature tweet welcoming Foran to the Warriors.

"Gt signing for @NZWarriors with Kieran Foran - exciting player. Gt game yday against Samoa Welcome to the Warriors family #WarriorsForever," read the message, which was quickly followed by a second tweet from Watson, apologising to fans for raising their hopes.

"I definitely need to lay off the Halloween punch, sorry to cause such a stir.

"Kieran Foran is on our wish list but not signed. Apologies fans," he said.

Watson laughed when reminded of the incident and denied he held any regrets over the embarrassing social media faux pas.

"You can't look back, you can only look forward," he said.

Watson is in Auckland for a few days to deal with a variety of different Warriors-related business but Doyle insisted there was no special reason for his visit.

"Obviously we're catching up on multiple discussions around the Warriors so there is no special reason," Doyle said.

"He's here for a little while, so no doubt we'll catch up with him quite a bit."

Would love him to come here, but I get the feeling he's only testing himself on the market to boost up his next manly contract.

Rumours around of Ray Thompson from Cows to Manly though.
