One day game or not, these young players need to start taking opportunities when they're given them.

wtf was that umpire on ?

Bell was very lucky, hat at least 6 balls up in the air that fell between players

and Copeland........when the ball was old and not swinging, he was bowling 125k pies, he relies heavily on his swing and change ups, problem is his slower ball is not that much slower than his fast balls

he may make a fringe ODI player but I dont see too much potential just watching him bowl, I dont give a rats what his stats say

You're basing this on one view of him.

Longer form of the game, good player, very good infact. If he keeps taking wickets for not many runs, as he has done so far, he'll get a look in the Australian side.

Whilst this is all true I can see how doubt will be hanging above Copeland now. Generally if you are that good of a bowler you will be good in all formats. I'll give Copeland benefit of the doubt.

He should have been picked for the Aus A game, that way we would have a much better idea of where he is at. What he showed today is what hes showed throughout his OD career, there is a reason why he averages over 60 in this format.

You could see the quality Copeland has in his second spell...but his inexperience showed very clearly, his head was down early and never really came back up.

Other things I got out of the game...

-Tim Paine, sadly, doesn't look like a captains arsehole. He managed his bowlers well but the actual changes were nonsensical at times and his field placings were very, very simplistic. He looked a bit like a social league skipper tbh. Simple things stood out, like using Christian over Lee at the end when he was getting sh*tcarted...sure, England were on top but they still needed 30 odd off like 4 overs. Not bowling Keath was a mistake as well IMO, after he took 4 last year. He's also not close to Haddin in any facet, but he will be if he keeps at it.

-Pattinson and Copeland are a LONG way off. They have the foundations but they need experience and to grow into their games.

-Brett Lee looked fit, and is still a very handy bat. I don't know what the speeds were like on telly but he looked to operating at about 80% most of the time. Would have been nice to see him rip in but maybe he's not quite there yet...still, a must for at least a few games in the ODIs IMO

-Doherty might have been sh*t in the Tests, but he deserves another chance in the ODIs...

-Ian Bell is the luckiest man in cricket at the moment...about eleventeen chances that fell just clear. Poor fielders must have been pulling their hair out.

I didn't think so...he probably made one real mistake, the first catch he probably should have stayed grounded for one more step. The other catch was never going to be out, and I don't recall him misfielding any that really jumped out at me (I could always be wrong though, I did think he was Khawaja for a few overs )
