predators was one of the worst pieces of shit ever filmed. I'm a massive fan of the aliens/predator franchises but AVP2 and Predators is everything wrong with modern day films. incredibly stupid characters, cliched plots and a duming down of things in order to make more special effects

Just home from seeing it with a mate. I thought it was pretty good.

For me the biggest surprise was
The Space Jockeys are humanoids
.

To be honest I was really on the look out for clues as to the tie in of the events of "Alien".

The picture of what looks remarkably like an Alien Queen in the room with the giant head and the vases.

I have a few questions about those missing 30-odd years between Prometheus and Alien

The planet in this film is LV-326 or something. The planet in the first 2 Alien films was LV-426 and this is obviously where Shaw and David took off to at the end of the film. How does one of the left over ships end up on LV-426 to be discovered by the Nostromo in Alien? Or are there eggs on the ship that Shaw and David flew away in?

What we see burst out of the Space Jockey before the credits role is obviously a fully grown Xenomorph. Is this an Alien Queen that eventually produces the eggs that spawn face huggers?

And if the space jockey that is killed at the end was the only one still alive, how does that explain the space jockey in Alien?

I reckon there's a story to be told in between Prometheus and Alien.

I liked Predators for the reason that it captured the spirit of the original; jungle, a pack of bad ass killers being stalked by another pack of bad ass killers. And "Long Tall Sally" playing over the end credits! Come on man!

After the AVP flicks Predators was a breath of fresh air!

Prometheus was the first film in a trilogy, that will finally connect the events on planet LV426. The only smartest bloke in the film was the captain he knew what was going on (weapons of mass destruction).

It would've been 100 times better if they hadn't tried to tie it into the Alien mythos and just had it as a standalone movie. Would've been so much better.

The Alien stuff felt really tacked on/created plotholes/ruined some of the Alien mystery wrt the Space Jockey's.

In saying that, it's the best old fashioned sci fi movie I've seen in ages.

Prometheus was the first film in a trilogy,

Where was this announced? I was under the impression that a sequel was up in the air depending on success but that was it. And tbh a sequel isn't needed.

I honestly keep forgetting that Scott has said so many times that it's not an Alien prequel. But to be honest, if 20th Centru Fox reckon theres more money to be made out of it, they make it so it ties in with the original Alien,

Saw it today, enjoyed it.

One thing that I dont understand is how can Predators have been fighting xenomorphs for thousands of years when it appears that these creatures are a fairly new creation?

Well the installation was over 2000 years old at least (that's what the head was dated at iirc)

Then there was the Alien mural on the roof of that room which to me says that they've been around even longer.

All totally unnecessary imo. The more I think about it the more pissed I get about the Alien tie-ins.

This was entertaining, but way too overhyped. I'd give it a 7.

The plot was good, the characters were idiots. I agree with Aragorn that they were naive, and not just about the planet. No weapons because it is a 'scientific expedition'? An unexplored territory, no idea what's out there and 'no weapons'. Shaw and Holloway were way too arrogant, headstrong and just dumb for people in their position, not to mention most of the others signed up for a 4 year long mission at least without a proper job description and the captain, one of the only non-scientists, had the most common sense.

And Holloway? 'The air might be breathable, I'm gonna take my helmet off!' 'No don't we don't know exactly what will happen..' 'I'm gonna do it anyway!' His actions left me wanting him to die first

predators was contrived shit dumbing down a potentially good concept into a z grade film with crap actors, a bunch of characters you want to be killed in the first 5 minutes, that ridiculous dude in the spaceship who's been smoking too much of something and geniused predators.

I actually think it was worse than AVP2 and that was pure shit. I hate hollywood for what they've done to potentially good movies

I thought it was ok, I thought the last 30 minutes got a bit ridiculous though, especially with some said stomach injuries and some ensuing acrobatics. I'm pretty torn on it, I thought it was a pretty smart script in parts, then some pretty poorly executed sequences as well. Most of the characters were absolute imbeciles that put themselves in situations that any 'scientist' would never risk, but you can ignore that for the sake of cinema. I think it would have been a much better movie had it ended about 20 minutes earlier with the ship scene, but I guess that wouldn't have allowed the alien tie-in which I thought was a farce anyway.

I'd give a 6.5 out of 10.

I agree with you Firey, but I couldn't ignore all the scientists being such idiots for the sake of cinema. I was expecting this to be a smart film, but in the end turned out to be just an action film asking some questions which it neglected to answer.

I liked it a lot and I hope there is a sequel to tie into Alien.

I thought the use of Guy Pearce was a waste. Why couldn't they get Lance Henriksen to play Weyland and get David to do the knife trick from Aliens. ;-)
