PS4 Vs Xbox One

I expect this thread to be going strong for the next decade.

So what's your opinion on this early battle between the two platforms?

I was quite stunned when I went down to EB to trade in some games towards my PS4 pre-order and the dude telling me that the XBO actually has more pre-orders at the moment. Could not believe it.

To me it seems like people were all up in arms about the new XBO policies but now don't care and are all like 'I don't trade in games anyway' & 'I'm always connected to the internet anyway'.

What's your opinion of it? Especially now that Microsoft have got rid of their DRM and always online policy?

I'll stick with my PS4 pre order

Speaking to my local EB where I did my pre-order after E3 and the news about XBone got around there was a spike in orders for PS4, I dare say with Microsoft changing it's policy that might change now.

I might get a XBone down the track now that Microsoft has changed it ridiculous stance. Still not a fan of the Kinect always being on and there are features that I just don't need especially in terms of the integration with TV etc

To me they are even. That probably means I will go with Xbox One next year. I will wait to see the reviews first.

In terms of games, Halo 5, Ryse and Quantum Break I like the look of, but I'm not too fussed about any PS4 exclusives at the moment.

I'm sure I'll end up with both because of the exclusives but Xbox One is looking like the first purchase. Still prefer the controller too.

Was on PS4 before E3, MS being a laughing stock of a company cemented something that didn't need cementing in my mind, and this lolworthy and predictable backtrack has changed nothing for me but make them look even worse imo.

People shouldn't so quick to jump back on if they were wavering before. They are reacting, but does anoyone think they aren't waitnig for the opportunity to try that garbage again? I will not support a product that pushed so hard for anti-consumer policies. I don't trust MS anymore, I was neutral to them before this but now I would not go near them with a 10-foot pole now.

Anyone saying they didn't care about those anti-consumer policies (e.g. if people were saying they dont care about the always on as they are always on, don't care about used games cause they dont trade ect) should be careful about that line of thinking, its a slippery slope. MS, and big companies in general, are greedy and will always push for the best possible situation for themselves that they can without upsetting people. Its a slippery slope, you give them an inch they'll take a mile.

Allow them to operate as if our opinion doesn't matter because a particular issue doesn't affect you and eventually a policy will come up that you DON'T agree with, and you'll have nothing to complain about, really, and possibly no way of preventing it as you've already bought the product.

The way I look at it is say, for a simple example, the government decided to ban motorbikes. This doesn't affect me, but it affects others. I wouldn't like to have something banned that I do use, so I would oppose such a ban to send the message that legislation needs to be for the people, not for the government (or company). We don't live in a vacuum, peeps, those policies were terrible and would greatly affect some peoples ability to purchase this product had they wanted to. No-one should support that, imo.

I'm leaning towards PS4 but may even get a PS3 to get in to for a year to replace my dead one. Not bring able to play PS3 games has delayed my purchase to my usual 12-18 months after release otherwise I would have preordered one already.

I enjoy having both consoles. It ensures you miss out on no consoles games but still not convinced on MS. I'll see what else they change if anything and may pick it up in 2 years time or if there is a slim version released.

FWIW I think the Xbox will still sell greatly regardless of change or not. I can't support it atm but a lot can, that's their choice & money.

If they try that garbage again I just won't buy it. The Xbox One is how I want it now so I will buy it. The fact that it's an offline console means they won't be able to put any restrictions or changes on it unless I download an update or if it's a requirement for games, in which case I'll stop buying their games.

And I cared a lot about their silly policies. It effectively stopped me playing Xbox One.

PS4 for me. most games go across both consoles now days anyway.

as far as internet issue goes. I'm in the country and only have 3G internet access so internet gaming isn't an option. I personally don't think this backflip from xbox is a permanent one either, they were bold enough to try and push it at the release so I don't think they will drop it that quickly. plus they have reserved the right to bring it back with updates.

The fallout would be huge if they decide to revert this decision again. I don't think they'd be able to recover, because the DRM policy was pretty minor news in mainstream media, only genuine gamers or tech followers knew that it existed or what it meant. This backflip ensures any further moves on this will get massive coverage across all media outlets. It would be a PR disaster, Microsoft trying to push this down our throats basically ensured that neither console will have it this gen now.

It's eventually the natural progression anyway, I expect by year 3 or 4 in most countries with decent internet close to 50% of game sales will be digital, there will be no value in trying to pick the fight a few years down the track.

I was going to buy a PS4 on launch, but I've calmed down a bit now Lol.

I still intend on going PS4 personally, but I will hold fire for a few months. I have a gazillion games on 360 to get through and enjoy yet, and thought it may be best to sit and watch the launch for a while. I want to ensure MS are true to their word and not 180 (again), and I want to make sure neither have issues along the lines of their 'Ring of Death' type things that might emerge a few months into the launch.
I'm happy to wait until mid 2014 before upgrading

I've pre-ordered the PS4, and will wait a few months on the xbox one until microsoft are clear and settled in their strategy. I really want forza 5, but am happy to wait. Plus the lure of playstation plus and being able to build a games catalog quickly and cheaply is pretty appealing for a launch console. It's hard to justify the xbox price with so many things up in the air at the moment.

I'll go PS4 - but I will wait a couple of weeks just in case there are some red ring type dramas with the first batch.

I'm thinking I will pick up a Vita in a few weeks, EB Games has a Wifi and 3G Vita bundled with PS All Stars Battle Royale for $250 AUD. Sweet. If the Vita is as connected to the PS4 as I've been led to believe, it should be a smart purchase.

If you didn't guess, PS4 for me. The exclusives on offer currently interest me more, not to mention that Sony still have yet to announce most of the thirty exclusives that are coming in the first year.

Anyone else notice on vgchartz that the PS4 equivalents of CoD: Ghosts, Battlefield 4 and Watch Dogs are all outselling (by a large margin it seems) their Xbox One counter-parts, and this is in the USA of all places. In the current top forty pre-ordered games, the PS4 versions of the three are all up, but there is not a single Xbox One game in the top forty. Again, this is USA pre-orders only, where you would expect the One to have its biggest audience by far. Not good signs early on for Microsoft.

Well a large amount of pre-orders came before Microsoft reversed their policy. PS4 should have been easily 2-1 in that period. Gamestop has now ran out their allocation of PS$ pre-orders.

As for games, well I don't know what prices they have in USA but I don't know why anyone would pre-order next-gen games here in Australia with the current prices.

The Xbox One exclusives interest me more at the moment so I'll get one sometime next year, hopefully by the time the new Halo comes out.

Gamestop has PS4 games listed at $60ish and most new releases in the current generation come in at that price point on US sites

I haven't pre-ordered any games as I assume games will probably be easy to get

Next gen games in the US are apparently staying at the $60 range so out here they should only increase by about $20

Yea same I only pre-ordered the console, JB HI FI have games like Watchdogs and Battlefield 4 at about $95 for the ps4. Looks like JB and EB games have stopped taking pro-orders for the ps4 online or aren't promising day one units will be available.

EB and JB had them listed as $120 earlier. That's what I was referring to.

I've managed to buy a PS4, battlefield 4, watch dogs and killzone for a total of $580. The joys of living in North America

No doubt aussie retailers will see it as an excuse to jack up prices, then complain about online retailers.
