Do you think any of the Sharks players, took, inadavertantly or purposely, something that was directly named & banned by name , by WADA?
Or
Do you think that Sharks players took, purposely or inadvertantly , something that could be caught by a wada "catch all" such as "tear drops from a fairy" because it satisfys 2 0f the 3 criteria being "possible performance & enhancing" & against the spririt of the sport"

BROWNLOW medallist Jobe Watson has revealed he took a drug he believed to be AOD-9604 - a substance since confirmed as banned under anti-doping rules.
The Essendon captain said he signed a consent form outlining how he would be administered with the drug. The form was co-signed by sacked sports scientist Stephen Dank, Watson said.

Watson said he believed he took the anti-obesity drug last year - his Brownlow season.

Medical updates for every club
Watson said he had no reason to feel guilty about his part in Essendon's supplements program, which was described by club-appointed investigator Ziggy Switkowski in May as a "pharmacologically experimental environment never adequately controlled or challenged or documented".

This is the first solid shot they have got on dank

And should make us sharks supporters concerned

Asada and wada have already declared ignorance is not a defence

I am. Despite our case being different to Essendon's, there will be many calling for the exact same penalties.

The telegraph will lead the charge!

Anybody who thinks this was an off the cuff admission from Watson is dreaming.

He wouldn't have said anything without clearing it through the Essendon PR machine first. Odds on there is a strategy behind it.

I think this has a long way to go yet. I still wouldn't be surprised if no Essendon players get suspended.

I think it's pretty clear to see what essendon are doing.....

Angling for 6 months bans due to ignorance on the legality of the substance...... After all legal proceedings are wrapped up it should be about 3 months down the track putting the ban commencement date around october.

At worst the players will miss a few rounds at the start of next season.

If the evidence is irrefutable, we should be putting ourselves in a position to do the same if need be. Maybe we are?!

Don't worry I had to wear full dragons outfit for four days straight.
I gave it the flogging it deserved .

Lucky I wasn't tested by ASSADA that weekend .

firstly the amino acid was not banned by name when essendon took the amino acid.
ASADA is claiming it falls under its catch all. ie. tear drops of fairys are banned.
Secondly it is an amino acid that assists in the natural metabolism of fats & sugars. It is not performance enhancing & until it is tested thoroughly on around 1000 non elite athlete types with double blind testing & the same on elite athletes , it wont be known.
It does come under 2 of the 3 50 year old WADA scientific guidelines for determining banned substabces.
1. it is potentially performance enhancing
2. its against the spirit of sport.

So it was definitely not banned eh?

Please refresh my memory in what we are aledged to have had in 2011 - it's not the same stuff as Essendon , is it ? It was not banned either at the time, was it?

Alp gives asada gestapo powers

Sports scientist Stephen Dank will be grilled by investigators after the Senate voted to bolster the coercive powers of the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority.
Interviews with Cronulla Sharks players - shelved last month - will also resume under the new powers, which have been described as a ''game changer'' by a source close to the Sutherland club.
ASADA will be able to demand phone records, text messages, documents and medical prescriptions of players and others, including Mr Dank, regardless of whether they are self-incriminatory.
It is understood Mr Dank, who has refused to co-operate with ASADA to this point, is at the top of the list of interview targets once the law change takes effect within a month. He did not return calls.

The ASADA Amendment Bill passed the Senate late on Monday night. It is expected to clear the lower house by Thursday.
The law will give ASADA the power to compel people through a ''disclosure notice'' to attend interviews and, importantly, force them to hand over any documentation requested, including records of communications.
Those who refuse face fines of $5100 for every day they refuse to co-operate.
The government had sought star chamber powers that would force people to answer questions even if the answers would incriminate them. Sport Minister Kate Lundy and Home Affairs Minister Jason Clare are under pressure to get results after the infamous ''blackest day in sport'' press conference that launched the investigation.
But amendments secured by the Greens will mean interviewees keep the right to silence and can take a lawyer into the interview room.
Labor senator Jacinta Collins hinted at the focus on the sports scientists that have infiltrated sport.
She told Parliament: ''Importantly, a disclosure notice can go to anyone; not just athletes or their support personnel. This recognises that people outside the jurisdiction of Australia's anti-doping regime may have information that would assist ASADA to identify and sanction those who commit anti-doping rule violations.''
Australian Olympic Committee president John Coates, who has lobbied for beefed up powers for ASADA, welcomed the Senate vote.
''With this legislation and the new powers it provides ASADA, Australia remains at the forefront of the fight against doping in sport,'' he said.
ASADA interviews with Essendon players and club officials are almost complete but interviews with Sharks players have been stalled since second-rower Wade Graham attended but refused to co-operate.
Rugby League Players Association chief executive David Garnsey said he would need to read the detail of the ASADA Amendment Bill before commenting.
In its submission to a parliamentary committee that considered the bill, the Australian Athletes Alliance, which represents professional footballers, cricketers, swimmers and netballers, argued against granting ''unreasonably wide coercive powers'' and said there should have been a greater period of public consultation.
