I'd definitely bring in Holmes and move Gagai to centre. He was your strongest player last night.

Oneill drops out of the team.

I think NSWmen like coming up with teams as much as the games themselves, even for the opposition.

Only 20% of the turnaround needed to win game 2 will come through changes. More important is the remaining players except Gagai to play better. Get them to Watch a tape of game 3, 2015 and copy that defensive intensity. NSW had their arrogant tails up after winning game 2 and the previous series. We came out in the third game and brutally hit with the shoulder all the 80 min. Most of the players are still there, even if getting older.

I think people are romanticising Slater a bit. He is still a gun, but he is not the same bloke that terrorised the Blues in the early years of Qld's streak.

To be honest I agree with this, the last couple of years he played for QLD the blues really monstered him and shut him down well. In saying that, this year I would have him in above Boyd, he looks sharp and has the combination with Cronk and Smith

this gagai to centre thing is making me laugh. just replacing one defensive liability with another.

why the f**k are they and others here suggesting moving their most consistent performer out of position? centre is different to wing. in attack, he'll find less space and see less ball as he won't be bringing it out. in defence, Hayne will just go through him. by all means do it QLD, but it is a dumb move.

better off switching chambers to the right side where he plays for Melb with Cronk. consider Boyd as a centre on the left inside Holmes or Oates. not a fan of FBs playing there, but f**k there are 2 for NSW anyway and they're all better than gagai in defence.

That is the reason Dane has been selected at wing.

That said, he does a ton of stuff for QLD that he just won't do for his club team so maybe having a go defensively at centre could be another hidden trick he'll show us all if selected there???

Will piss me off no end if he actually looks good in defence there in game 2 but I do believe it is a risk the QLD selectors will try to avoid at all costs.

the opening half an hour where there was no stoppage apart from the maloney try really f**ked the QLD middle and papalii on the left hard. we knew they were down on quality here, but the non-stop nature of the match hurt them and definitely didn't suit someone like Papallii who needs the stop-start to be effective. then you had that plan to kick to Oates at every opportunity, wearing down another big body making him virtually ineffective as the match progressed, and avoiding Boyd at the same time.

afterall, many successful QLD Origins have involved holding down in the ruck and slowing the play the ball. this one didn't go that way and the result ended up totally different.

The ruck nonsense, or lack of it from QLD, was a huge factor. I was amazed watching how poor QLD were in this area compared to the previous years when they were allowed to do almost anything to the tackled player and for as long as they liked.

How is gagai going to be out of position when he plays there for his club?

Haha I had a laugh at that comment to, lucky the blues never watched game 3 2000 or the last 10 yrs would have been a bit different.
its not about the scoreline in the game i suggested. it did blow out but the way they defended. lots of comments by the commentators in the call of that game about how the qld pack hit with the shoulder cleanly instead of the wrestle. and all this after nsw had lifted and dominated in game 2 and made qld look like were getting old and the dominance was possibly over. bit like just now. nsw couldnt have changed anything from this last decade from watching a win. the only difference that could have been made with hindsight would be flicking bozo ten years earlier.

I always laugh when NSW fans claim QLD's dominance came from slowing down the ruck. It's absolute nonsense. All of a sudden we forget that the Blues gameplan for the last 10 years was to try and stop QLD's more expansive running and passing game?

And where did I say it was the ruck that gave QLD dominance???

Are suggesting it was not a part of the game in which QLD clearly dominated over the years Greasy?

So when you say "huge factor" are you referring to tv ratings?

Are suggesting it was not a part of the game in which QLD clearly dominated over the years Greasy?

Not for the majority of QLD's dominance - it is widely recognised that a free-flowing fast moving game has been QLD's biggest strength during the 8 straight run. People are already referring to NSW "Out-QLDing" QLD the other night.
