Queensland fullback Game Three

^No Josh Morris for NZ but we have someone a lot better - Dean Whare.
Whare has bullied Inglis in test matches, and Inglis even said he is his toughest opponent.

What a luxury for NZ to have 17 players that are all better than any 17 Australia could muster!

Gotta admit, at the start of the year I was firmly of the belief that Slater should be fullback, Inglis centre for Qld.

But now I've changed my mind. The main reason is getting Inglis away from Josh Morris. He has nearly completely nullified him for the past 2-3 series. In the third Origin Inglis had space and could inject himself wherever he wants.

I still think Slater is the best option for Kangaroos though (No J Morris for NZ/England!)

It still raises the issue of the strength of the Queensland 3/4s. Take Inglis out, and she's looking threadbare.

I think with Hodges retiring Qld are going to be looking hard at the centres and if Slater & Inglis are both available it makes sense to leave Billy at the back.

Gagai looked very composed on Wednesday, can easily play centre.

Heh, what a game to make your Origin debut in :)

You're right, he mostly looked the goods. No need to rush Dane into the centres if we don't need to though. We're also short quality wingers and for mine, he fits the bill perfectly.

I actually don't mind Edrick Lee on the wing. I'll throw another one out there, if we play Slater at fullback (and for the record, I wouldn't), play GI on the wing. At least that way he can roam around a bit.

Gagai looks the goods, the thing that I liked the most was the fact he made an error early (knock on off a kick I think) but bounced back. I loved his footwork, and it is something different that we haven't had before.

If GI is fullback - that would give us a 3/4 lineup of Gagai, Chambers, Boyd and Lee. If just one of those players are injured, the standard drops off CONSIDERABLY.

In fact Dale Copley - who can't even make the Broncos firsts - would be next in my line by my calculations. And then possibly O'Neill from the Cowboys who seems to have too many mistakes in his game for Origin at the moment.

So, Slater isn't under any pressure for at least another year.

I guess Milford could potentially slot in at fullback if desperately required, plus Morgan could conceivably play anywhere from 1-6. There's also Barba who is just about to capture his old form... surely... any day now...

I was surprised Lee was called in as 18th man. As a Raiders fan, it seems that he still has a lot to learn. I expected him to be a lot further along in his development by now.

I would back Oates to play on the wing.

He probably won't be playing there for the Broncos next year though..

Oates has very little errors to his game which would be viewed favourably. I would have thrown Kahu's name into the mix before he was trounced by Gagai the other week.

Does that actually matter. Slater, like Lockyer did, has adjusted his game to make up for the lost speed.

I remember Lockyer being written off several years before he retired - but that didn't stop him from being the most influential player on the field even though a touch slower.

Lockyer still had a great passing game and an all important kicking game to fall back on aside from reading the play like the savant he was.

Slater without his acceleration and speed is just a poor mans Lachlan coote. And again Inglis changes the blues kicking strategy immensely. They are reluctant to either put the ball up high to allow the defence to arrive at the same time nor will they kick long straight down the field thus greatly reducing there meters gained.

Pearce will be flattered you think he knows where his kicks are going to land.

I'll take you back to Game One (I think) of this year. Slater's over the top pass leads to a spectacular try by Inglis.

The Slater haters still haven't come up with a suitable replacement for the 3/4 line if Inglis plays fullback next year - what a bunch of nuffies that can't think past their own forehead.

The conclusion is that Lee isn't ready for Origin (saw him play last night and his defence is woeful). O'Neill has too many mistakes in his game. Copley can't make the Broncos firsts. Vidot? Only if you want two/three drop balls every game.

Bunch of geniuses.

:lol:One pass and then we had to score a freaking field goal with like plenty of time to go because we had no attack.
We are lucky NSW shot themselves in the foot that game because we had nothing.

Don't get your panties in a twist because several people would prefer Inglis at the back.
