GI take a bow!

He has played two games at fullback for QLD, and NSW has been completely powerless to stop him in both outings

Immortal in the waiting

Slater needs to properly retire from rep footy, Inglis was unstoppable out there.

Slater has one year in him yet.

Inglis has been hot and cold all year. He was horrible at fullback for Australia against New Zealand. Last year his cart backs were awesome, but he did look lost at times - hovering around dummy half when Queensland had a few flat spots - when he should have been hitting the ball at speed.

One more year for Slater.

You can "nope" all you like mate ... but Slater won't be dropped until Slater wants to be dropped. He's the greatest fullback of all time and he should continue to be picked in that position. His combination with Cronk and Smith seals the deal.

Inglis is a great player, but not as good as Slater - who has been playing injured remember.

I'm not sure he'll come back anyway, he's had major shoulder injury and is actually to the point where he's in the way of Inglis at fullback.

You obviously know better than Mal Meninga then?

I keep remembering Inglis at fullback playing for Australia. I was a terrible performance - apathetic even. He looked totally disinterested. I've never seen Slater play a poor game - and as Mal said prior to the game, it's Slater's talk that makes a massive different to the team.

Slater on the wing, GI at fullback. Gagai/Chambers in the centres.

Never said I was, it's just what I view and with Inglis playing fullback he's not nearly as stifled in attack.

NSW has Inglis' number at center, they specifically picked players on his side strong and quick enough to stop him.
Slater should hang his boots up.

Definitely one more year for Slater with no Hodges next year.

Need as many guns on the field as possible. Inglis will get the ball and cause headaches whereever he plays.

The exciting thing for me is what Morgan brings to the field when he plays at "lock".

All the more reason to keep him there. The opposition being reactive in selection instead of proactive is brilliant. They can use better defenders, less concern of their attack.

But yeah, no Hodges next year. GI in the centres. Slater at fullback, Morgan to continue the utility role.

Slater has never been the same since Pearce 'fell' onto Slater's knee during an Origin game a few years ago. It robbed him of his blinding acceleration from a standing start. Slater is however one of the most brilliant Rugby League minds alive at the moment. His insight into the game is up there with anyone who has ever played. He was not in the Coach's box for the entire game last night by accident. Do not underestimate what Bill Slater brings to the Origin team. It is many times more than a fullback.

Lol, Billy will take the field in a wheelchair and some of you will say "yeah but hes a good talker".

The facts are NSW dont respect him at all anymore, and havent for 2-3 series now hence why they put the ball straight down his throat.

Its no co-incidence that 2 of Queenslands most dominating performances the past few series have been with Inglis at fullback.

Means nothing when you consider Slater has been the fullback throughout most of the Queensland series wins.

Another point is the balance of the team. With Hodges now gone, next year's 3/4 line without Inglis would be Gagai, Chambers, Boyd and possibly Edrick Lee.

If anyone thinks that having Lee in the team is better than Slater (and don't tell me Slater could play wing when everyone's been banging on how he's lost speed), then we're in fairy land.

One more year for Slater, and who knows, Michael Morgan may then replace him.

Yes he has been the full back for all the series wins but the margin of error between victory and defeat got closer and closer. No coincidence that that happend once Billy lost his speed a few years ago and NSW started have 0 respect for his impact on the game anymore.

Look they probably will give him the 1 next year so he can go out on his own terms but he's not the best option.

Does that actually matter. Slater, like Lockyer did, has adjusted his game to make up for the lost speed.

I remember Lockyer being written off several years before he retired - but that didn't stop him from being the most influential player on the field even though a touch slower.

Agree. Slater has been a fantastic player for Queensland for a long period but Inglis offers more at fullback now. Inglis' size means he can't be bullied on kick returns, something NSW have made a deliberate tactic of doing to Slater for the past 2 or 3 series. Our sets will nearly always get off to a good start with Inglis at fullback, and roll on from there.

Combinations aside, the 9, 7, 6, 1 should gradually be phased out. If not, in one or two years, the entire fabric of the team will change and be lambs to the slaughter. Inglis is the obvious choice to come in.

Gotta admit, at the start of the year I was firmly of the belief that Slater should be fullback, Inglis centre for Qld.

But now I've changed my mind. The main reason is getting Inglis away from Josh Morris. He has nearly completely nullified him for the past 2-3 series. In the third Origin Inglis had space and could inject himself wherever he wants.

I still think Slater is the best option for Kangaroos though (No J Morris for NZ/England!)
