That is a good looking team - i'd like to Stagg in for Crocker but he hasn't let down Qld like the Roosters so i'm sure he will do well.

My changes would be:
Wesser to Fullback
Slater to Wing (WILLIAMS OUT OF SIDE)
Prince for Thurston (Thurston to bench, Flannery out of the side)
Nutley for Crocker

That means your bench would be

14. Ben "Punching Bag" Ross
15. Carl Webb
16. Johnthon Thurston
17. Matt Bowen

very small bench

Where is Rhys Wesser?!

Removing my bias for a second, if there is ANYONE deserves a spot, it is him.

I'm so glad Prince didn't get picked. I think the whole incubent thing should only really be applied when they win a series.. They needed to pick the team with the best chance to win, and if that meant leaving Prince out, so be it.

Wesser can feel extremely hard done by to not get picked at fullback, but I can see the selectors' intentions - Slater is just a massive liability on the wing.

Slater is on notice in this game 1. He has a lot to prove at fullback -defensively - at Origin level.

Prince should have been in.

Slater deserves Fullback spot. Dallas Johnson unlucky to miss out.

Great side

More Cowboys than Broncos for the first time ever.

In fact, more players from the Cowboys than any other side.

Big representation for the Cowboys, nice to see. I hope it won't hurt them over the coming months in club games, but it'll be a good test of character for them.

Cheers.

If those sides stay as they are it'll be interesting to see what team the Cowboys come up with espcially from 1-5 when they don't have the bye during Origin.

I agree Wesser can count himself very unlucky, but as a QLDer it is extremely exciting to see 2 in form specialist wingers in the side for the first time in a long time. Playing fullbacks and centres on the wing at Origin level has hurt us for the most part in recent years with guys like Shifcofske and Hodges (with Billy Slater's 2004 series the exception).

The selection of Thurston over the incumbent Prince is a ballsy move by the selectors but I think they've done the right thing. Thurston is more suited to playing alongside Lockyer (who will handle the majority of ballplaying work anyway) and JT is also much better in defense.

The only beef I have with the side is the selection of Crocker. He is completely out of form and does not have enough match fitness under his belt. We really needed a guy like Stagg who could go the full 80 in the backrow to compliment our other impact backrowers in Thorn and Webb.

All in all it looks a strong side. Will be interesting to watch our massive forward pack match up against the smaller, quicker NSW forwards.

Prince was only the incumbent because the Maroons had no other options. If he was born south of the Tweed Finch would still have gotten his blue jumper last year. Qld had a better option and took it.

Crocker is about the only real problem I see for them. Just don't think he's the best back rower they could have picked by a long way.

Slater / Wesser coulda gone either way. Rhys is the safer custodian, but Slater shades him in attack.

About the most even looking series going in for a long while - should be a cracker.

Better bench than NSW, esp Webb who'll make a big impact.
