Hmmm OT interesting.......thought about your comment...but I just dont know and cant warm to that. Field & Nicholls again....yikes
Norman outside Field calling the shots for him would be exciting in my book.
Having the slowest centre in the comp (Lafai) outside of Field gives him no real incentive to actually take on the line because if he gets through he is on his own.
Norman can read a game and act spontaneously so not a bad thing to have beside a bloke with real speed.

Throwback Thursday: Round 17 v Raiders

Victories between these two sides have come in bunches with winning streaks dominating the records. Take at a look at some of the best matches between the Dragons and the Raiders.

St George Illawarra Dragons 58 defeated Canberra Raiders 16
Round 17. Sunday, July 8, 2007
WIN Stadium

The Dragons notched up 10 tries in this Sunday afternoon thrashing, leaving the Raiders in their wake by 42 points.

Captained by Ben Hornby who lined up at fullback, the Dragons posted 22 points in the first half suggesting a big score was looming, but the Raiders kept themselves within reach to trail by 12 points at the break.

The final 40 minutes went all the way of the Dragons and saw half the team score a four-pointer. Nine different players scored the 10 tries throughout the match with five-eighth Rangi Chase the only player to bag a double. Matt Cooper, Dan Hunt, Josh Morris, Chase Stanley, Justin Poore, and Ben Ellis all crossed over to inflate the score-line. Jamie Soward would also score a try but kicked nine from 10 goals in a near-perfect outing with the kicking tee.

St George Illawarra Dragons 25 defeated Canberra Raiders 18
Round 11. Sunday, May 20, 2018
Glen Willow Stadium, Mudgee

The Dragons narrowly trumped the Raiders in a match that was the definition of topsy-turvy, featuring six lead changes and three tries over 50 metres.

It was a decisive blow from Matt Dufty in the 70th minute which eventually sunk the Raiders in front of a packed house at Mudgee's Glen Willow Stadium. The nifty fullback sliced through the Raiders’ right edge before beating Jarrod Croker and Jack Wighton in a scintillating solo 50-metre special to give the Red V a seven-point win.

A Widdop penalty goal on the stroke of half-time helped level the score up at 10-apiece during the break. Although, the Raiders recorded first points in the second half, Dufty's match-winner would eventually break the 18-all deadlock.

St George Illawarra Dragons 34 defeated Canberra Raiders 16
Round 23. Saturday, August 16, 2014
Canberra Stadium

A Brett Morris hat-trick and a Jason Nightingale double inspired the Dragons to a confident victory over the Raiders in the nation's capital.

Victories had come few and far between against the Raiders and trying to break a 10-year hoodoo at a ground where they had won two of 13 matches, looked like an impossible task.

The drought-breaking win couldn't have been more convincing with the Dragons running away with the result in the second half.

Only two points separated the sides in the first half with the Raiders leading 12-10, but the Dragons stormed home in the second half thanks to Morris and Nightingale who continued to find the try line and inflate the score.

Norman should replace Lafai at centre when Widdop returns at 6, Lomax replaces Aitken and onwards and upwards from there

Ok, focus back to our game on Sunday.

I expect Vaughan and Norman will definitely back up. Friz not so sure, but likely. I don't think Hunt will.

However, knowing McGregor, all will.

Personally, I'd like to see:
1. Dufty
2. Pearson
3. Aitken
5. Rava (imo i dont think lafai is fit)
19. Saab
6. Norman
7. Nicholls
22. Vaughan
9. McInnes
10. Lawrie
11. Host
12. T. Sims
23. Friz

14. K. Sims
15. Robson
13. Leilua
17. Kerr
Season is on the line here, Hunt is our highest paid player, he HAS to play.

Ricky Stuart didn't allow Nick Cotric to celebrate with Origin boys, told him to concentrate on Dragons game.
No doubt our guys are still at the pub.

Raiders to win by plenty. The slump started much earlier this season than usual.

I bet Mary banked on having enough points in the bag to rest the origin players but he has no way near the points needed so interested to see if he rests them or does the usual and play then busted up so they can get injured prior to Rd 25. Not that they will be in finals contention. What a mess. He should be embarrassed to still be coaching after this season as he definitely has the cattle to make the 8 (without JDB). No excuses for this season for not making the 8 but poor coaching.

Five things: Round 17 v Raiders

Before the Dragons take to WIN Stadium and do battle with the Canberra Raiders, take a look at these five things to keep an eye out for during the match.

Origin stars singular focus

The State of Origin period has come to a close with players able to now knuckle down and focus solely on charging towards the finals.

After three tough and physical Origin matches, the question still remains whether or not the New South Wales and Queensland players will turn out on Sunday.

Corey Norman has been named in the Dragons' starting side after playing his debut Origin match on Wednesday. Paul Vaughan, Tyson Frizell and Ben Hunt all played big roles for their respective states across the series and have been named on the extended bench.

Raiders duo Jack Wighton and Josh Papalii also featured in all three Origins for the Blues and Maroons respectively.

While there's no doubt they will be battered and bruised from the Origin campaign, they will be doing all they can to return to club level with a bang.

Taste of their own medicine

There's some debate whether 'hoodoos' in rugby league are real or just bad luck. The Raiders’ stranglehold over the Dragons over the past 20 years adds fuel to the fire that hoodoos are real.

From 2003 to 2013, the Dragons won only one game out of 16 matches against the Raiders. A 58-16 is the only shining light of the 10-year period, with the Dragons failing to win at all in Canberra during the decade.

The Dragons have turned the tides in the recent years and given the Raiders a taste of their own medicine. The Dragons have won five of the past six matches against the Raiders and are beginning to build their own nice record after years on the receiving end.

Far from over

After 16 rounds of the NRL, the competition ladder is still congested and the final top eight far from certain.

The Dragons are only two points outside the top eight, tied on 14 points with the Broncos, Cowboys and Warriors. A string of victories could easily see the Dragons slide into the top eight.

However, with the end of season fast approaching, it's time for the Dragons to start finding victories. Expect Paul McGregor's men to be fired up for Sunday's clash.

Final outing at WIN in 2019

For the past three weeks, the Dragons have been living at WIN Stadium. Sunday's game against the Raiders will be the last time they take the field in the Illawarra for the 2019 regular season.

The Dragons have won two of four matches at WIN Stadium this season, with victories over Manly and North Queensland. In their final match at fortress Wollongong, the Dragons will want to give the fans something to cheer about.

Raising money for the i98FM Illawarra Convoy

The Dragons have partnered with the i98FM Illawarra Convoy as match day partners on Sunday and will donate one dollar from every ticket sold to the convoy.

The money will be distributed to worthy charities and people across the region, with the NRL and Venues NSW also chipping in and matching the overall sum raised by the Dragons.

Oh yet again Mary has set the bar high with an Action Plan on the whiteboard targeting 6 wins out of 9. Lets do the math 14 + 12 = 26.
I thought he did not look at the ladder!
Oh well for Mary that is good enough. For the supporters it will be football is over beginning of Sept.yet again
