Oh yet again Mary has set the bar high with an Action Plan on the whiteboard targeting 6 wins out of 9. Lets do the math 14 + 12 = 26.
I thought he did not look at the ladder!
Oh well for Mary that is good enough. For the supporters it will be football is over beginning of Sept.yet again

So annoying that he said that. Provides an immediate excuse for poor performance.

In any case 26 points likely won't be enough. 28 may not be either unless we had a few big wins.

Raiders to win by plenty. The slump started much earlier this season than usual.

I bet Mary banked on having enough points in the bag to rest the origin players but he has no way near the points needed so interested to see if he rests them or does the usual and play then busted up so they can get injured prior to Rd 25. Not that they will be in finals contention. What a mess. He should be embarrassed to still be coaching after this season as he definitely has the cattle to make the 8 (without JDB). No excuses for this season for not making the 8 but poor coaching.
Disagree Slippery, about some anyway.

I think we’ll win on Sunday, we have a good squad if our SOO boys play. Last game at WIN for the year, I reckon we’ll get up.

Can’t argue about the rest though, what a mess of a year so far.

I’m still hoping for some miracles, Widdop, Graham, Lomax back and NO MORE INJURIES, you never know what the footy Gods have planned !

St George Illawarra prepare for Canberra's British assault

St George Illawarra's Gareth Widdop is disappointed he will miss the chance to play against a number of his England teammates when the Dragons host Canberra on Sunday night.

A key feature of the Raiders success in 2019 has been the sheer number of Englishmen playing for the club.

Josh Hodgson was the first of the crop to arrive in 2015, with Elliot Whitehead, John Bateman and Ryan Sutton all following him south. Wigan's George Williams will join the quartet in 2020.

For Widdop, the group will pose a big challenge, but he's confident his Dragons teammates will prevail in what is a crucial fixture for the side.

"It's always good coming up against teammates, it's a shame I'm not out there playing," Widdop said. "They're playing some really good football at the moment and it's a big challenge for us this week. They're in the top four, so our boys are looking forward to it."

While Widdop arrived as a 15-year-old when his family moved to Melbourne, his debut in 2010 coincided with that of Sam Burgess. James Graham made his NRL debut two years later, with the trio the first of the current crop to make an impact in the competition.

With even more of Britain's top talent set to arrive in Australia, Widdop feels it can only be good for international rugby league.

"For international rugby league and England in general, it's good to have guys coming over to the NRL and testing themselves week in, week out. As you can tell, all the boys that have come out here have worked really hard and are doing really well, which is good."

Coach's Preview: Round 17 v Raiders
St George Illawarra Dragons coach Paul McGregor talks about the Reg Gasnier statue now sitting outside Netstrata Jubilee Stadium and breaks down the upcoming match against the Raiders.

"We were only one game away from a grand final last year"
No you weren't! You were two games away from a grand final. Souths were one game away from a GF.
And he keeps saying how well the team did last week without 9 starters?
They fricken lost McGregor! They lost! They didn't do well. They lost! And they lost to a flat storm minus all of their Origin stars.

They actually did well without Widdop, Graham, Lomax (and JDB) all wouldn’t have been playing SOO (except JDB maybe).

McGregor @ 4.04s " we were only 1 win away from the GF last year, we hadn't been in the top 4 for a number of weeks"
McGregor @ 5.08s " We don't look at the past, learn from the past and move on pretty quickly"

Everything wrong with that interview. Also dont want to add in the 9 players missing statement.

Jamie Soward tells it how it is.
In his Raiders vs Dragons preview he says how Dragons were poor last week against Storm and missed an easy opportunity to get a win against a weakened and flat Storm side in Wollongong. Too many errors and whilst Paul McGregor said he was happy with it Dragons should have won.

I'm sick of the excuses.
Don't praise the team for almost winning last week. Don't praise them for being brave. Stop talking about the 9 guys out and letting them off the hook. They made too many errors and threw away the 2 points when the season is on the line.

Mary..now get the rose coloured glasses off.
I thought we were 2 games or wins from getting to a GF, we lost against Souths and then had to win the GF qualifier. ?. Anyway Mary will say anything to make things look better than they are.
Have we been in the Top 4 THIS YEAR...dont think so. and if referring we were most of last year we basically finished 5th or 6th bowing out in Week 2 after rolling in at 7th after being in the Top 4 for about 20 weeks.
pfffttt...6 out 9 to make the 8. Keep dreamin!

At some stage the media will turn on him for his diabolical performance given the talent he has had verses the result. I think it will come later this year. One this pressure from the media is applied, our board will quickly look to divert attention fro them and look to replace Mary.

Will we have a new coach for 2020? I don't know, but his honeymoon is about to come to and end when journalist realise that we can't make the finals. And issues like injury and suspensions still don't explain our results.

Me thinks Norman & Nicholls are not a good combo as both not instinctive runners taking the line on.
I would prefer a Norman / Field combo if Hunt out
Even though i dont think Field is a solid 1st grader he offers more than Nicholls
I thin Field has done his dash and will be moved on like Masters and a few others. Unfortunately some of our dead wood is contracted for 2020 and moving those players on is a bridge to far for Millward.

I believe Hunt will play and if he does not, I would prefer Clune over Nicholls.

Only way there will be media pressure is if we continue to lose.
I doubt we will though. We will win more than we lose.
