Why do we even need a bench hooker?

Surely Levi is fit enough to play 80..........what other team carries 2 hookers?........

I understand the value of a utility as injury cover.... Which Roberts or randell could do.......... But having an entire spot taken up on the bench for a hooker rotation seems dumb..... Especially next year with less interchanges

It's his defensive reading that gets him and his winger in trouble. At fullback you pretty much just go for the guy who breaks through the line (and actually rushing at them like he does at centre might work well).

Plus his attack from fullback in a backline play is pretty good.

I know he's your cousin or whatever mate but you need to be able to look at it objectively.

He has massive issues defending. It's not a simple matter of missing a few tackles, he doesn't even try most of the time. We saw it again today he tries to go for the low percentage intercept because he's too scared to mark his man, and another try he just stood there.

He's good in attack but honestly it's getting to the stage where his work in attack isn't making up for the woeful defence. You're also overrating his playmaking skills. Yes he can throw a nice pass but I've also seen him butcher about 50 overlaps because he didn't want to pass the ball.

I think he needs some time defending in NSW Cup for his own good more than anything else. Let him get some confidence doing it against lower quality players so he might at least try to tackle in FG.

He has told me this on several occasions.

Arguing with you over Gagai is obviously useless because you can't be objective.

He's been our most dangerous player in attack this year however he's our absolute worst defensive liability with daylight second. I've previously let him get away with it because I like his work in attack but like others I'm starting to lose patience. He doesn't even try to put his body on the line and that's the most frustrating part. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt if he was just a rookie like Sione or Levi but he's been in FG for 3 years now and it's not getting any better.

Actually he was fifth for meters made, and missed more tackles than he made.

Because I've been talking about his defence you complete and utter moron. 1qaz, with all due respect, you wrote you haven't watched Newcastle games so you really can't comment on perceived player strengths and weaknesses. Looking at NRL Stats isn't enough to back up your points. If they were, Kate Snowden would be one of the best props in the comp, but he aint.

I already said there were other terrible defenders in the team, but the difference is the others at the very least try to make tackles which Gagai doesn't. Wont put his body on the line. Will go for the low percentage intercept because he appears too scared to even try and tackle his opposite. When he actually does attempt to touch someone it's just arm grabbing which I'm sure he knows won't stop anyone. Again, not putting his body on the line. You mention guys like Roberts and Gidley but at least they try and make a proper tackle even if they come up short. That's the difference with Gagai.

As a unit we're making bad reads in defence at the moment but even in games in the past when we've defended well Dane has been the liability. Coaches target him because they know he won't even make a serious attempt at tackling.
