`We're going to win'

IRRITATED Manly coach Des Hasler left Narrabeen yesterday declaring his bits-and-pieces squad will not only prove the punters wrong, but the rest of the NRL too in tomorrow's clash with the Warriors in Auckland.

Hasler slapped a media ban on his 19-man squad which left Sydney yesterday morning for New Zealand.
The Sea Eagles boss has faced a barrage of criticism from rival NRL clubs and pundits following his decision to rest five key players. But Hasler stood by his rookies yesterday morning, declaring: ``We are going over there to win.
``People can write us off if they want; we are not writing us off. We will be very competitive.
``They (supporters) will be seeing a very good Manly side. A Manly side which is going to win.''
Hasler was hopeful the injured group of Brett Stewart (knee), Brent Kite (back), Steven Bell (ribs), Luke Williamson (shoulder) and Glenn Stewart (sternum) would play in next week's final-round clash with the Dragons at Brookvale Oval.
``That's in the hands of our medical staff,'' Hasler said.
``It's (the criticism) an insult to the players as well. They are professional footballers and know what they are doing.''
Hasler said New Zealander Steve Matai would not play tomorrow but was making the trip to his homeland on an ``ambassador role'', while Bulldogs junior Jason Wells was set to earn a starting debut in the pack.
Rookies Michael Bani and Vic Mauro are also likely to make their debuts against the Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium.
A final decision on half Matt Orford (calf) will be made before kick off.
``If there's any hint of him carrying an injury, he won't play,'' Hasler said. ``We've got Jason King and Travis Burns coming back; that's a bonus.''
Hasler said his young squad was not under any undue pressure to win.
``We are always under pressure to perform, the players demand it,'' he said.
``The Warriors are a good side, there's no doubt about that.''

Shutup you 3 take it to a gay bar or something.

Warriors look out for the winger Bani, he is as fast as Stewart with alot of skill your big wingers will have problems getting a hold of him, but im not sure on his defence since he is only like 75kgs Manu will probably just run over him lol. And my cousin Vic might be getting his first grade debut this weekend, cant wait.

Yup Michael Crockett is a huge man alright.

Trend: In the past four home games, we've raced out of the blocks to big early leads and basically have the game won at halftime
(36-10 vs Penrith, 32-12 vs St George, 30-4 vs Newcastle, 18-0 vs GC)

The thing givning me hope is that there is a good core of strong defenders still in the Manly side, with Menzies, Lyon, Watmough, Burns and Monaghan in the crucial spots, and there is still plenty of pace in the backline with Bani, Hicks and Robertson, while Cuthbertson will provide some impact off the bench

Hopefully it is a good game

Manly fires first shots against Warriors

By AARON LAWTON - Sunday News | Sunday, 26 August 2007

Manly coach Des Hasler has given the Warriors their team talk after touching down in Auckland and saying his under-strength team will win today's crucial NRL top-four decider. And Hasler - one of the game's great tacticians during his playing stint with the Sea Eagles - went a step futher when he suggested the full house sign at Mt Smart Stadium could come back and haunt the home side.
"The Warriors are a tough gig any time and we aren't expecting it to be any less tough on "But we have brought a really competitive side across with us and the Warriors need to be guarded.
"Obviously they are playing in front of a full house so it will put a lot of pressure on them as well."
Hasler has rested five players from today's clash - a game the Warriors must win to keep their top four aspirations alive.
And despite the Warriors scoring an impressive 180 points in their last four home games, Hasler says his young team won't be intimidated pitching up at Mt Smart.
"It's not too bad," Hasler said when asked how tough it was to play in Auckland.
"Over the last few years we have had a pretty good track record against the Warriors.
"We have a lot of belief so we are quietly confident."

It was never going to be easy, with your five players in or out.

Hasler can say what he thinks.
