R7: 405pm EELS v Bulldogs GAME DAY THREAD @ Commbank Stadium 16/4/23

Back from the game, a good win that wasn't still in the balance in the final 20 mins - objective achieved 😊.

Was very happy when announced that Hands was given the starting role... 'Flu for Hodgson? Well whatever story we have to tell I guess, but please BA keep the team like this!

At 0-0 after 20min and not having converted any of our opportunities, I thought we were odds on to fall behind on the scoreboard. Especially during that period where the Bulldogs turned it on and were camped on our line for what seemed like loads of repeat sets - but the defence somehow held, which was amazing.

Best game I've seen Penisni play - instrumental in getting us ahead on the scoreboard late in the first half to build some momentum. Sivo was much improved in the having a go stakes too.

We have a few errors in us here and there... but it was nothing compared to watching Reed Mahoney overplay his hand! Sitting amongst a bay of Dogs fans they were giving it to him deluxe, and clearly aren't big fans of his. Loved RCG's barge over try and bouncing the ball almost on Reed afterward.

Burton is quality, but Dogs really look like they don't have a halfback - even when they had two on after Reynolds joined from the bench. Their #4 Alamoti went ok, I wouldn't really feed the rest.

His service is better than Hodgsons. And his work rate was fine. As long as we hold the middle (which we did) that's all we need to do. The only issue with our middle defence was Hopgood. Without Hodgson and Hopgood our middle would be great defensively.

He did his job today, good.

That doesn't make him effective for eighty, the fact we held the middle with that level of input doesn't mean he's an 80 min hooker.

Cartwright only missed one tackle all game. 24 tackles, 1 missed, 0 ineffective.
Hopgood 37 tackles, 5 missed, 2 ineffective.

He missed 2 pretty badly as well. 2022 Cartwright today.

Hopgood was more effective today.
