The year Mullen is having is a logical extension of last year, imo... I thought most of the change happened there... it's just the team around him is buying into everything a lot more now. He was brilliant for us last year aside from a very small handful of moments/games.
Ever since Wayne gave him the #6 jersey and said "yep, that's your jersey now and forever", Mullen has personally thrived. I get the feeling it's mostly in Mullens head, too... the difference between him playing 6 and 7, that is.
He still has improvement in him... his short kicking game has really come along now, but can still be better... and I would love to see the day where Mullen commands the ball when he really needs to... but Gids has got in the way so much over the past few years, that's a bit of a tough one. It's obvious to all and sundry that Mullen is our primary, and often our sole true playmaker... obvious to everyone besides him and whoever is passing the ball to Gids, anyway.
The thing I like most about the Roberts/Mullen combination is that it brings some of the best football we've seen out of Mullo. Roberts is fine and everything... I think he'll make a very handy halfback for us at least... but it's his effect on Mullens game that really pleases me.
