According to Fox Sports, Bateman, Lodge, and Smith have all been linked with a move to the South Sydney Rabbitohs as they enter a new era, with Wayne Bennett returning to the club as their head coach.
We might get one or two max would be a stretch no way we afford all 3.

I am confident we will get Lodge on what I’ve heard

i dont see why we cant 2 out of the 3.

Lodge using up money freed up from Ilias.

Smith will come cheap for second half of the season only on 300 to 400k. I think understanding with roosters is that they pay half his salary to sit on sidelines and brendan smith has to drop his asking price, so close to 300k for second half of season.

Bateman i dont think we can afford and i dont think we want to afford he is shit!!!!!

I wouldnt take a 30year old bateman if you gave him to me for free, he is too old,i think he is past it and we have 2nd rowers, we need at least 1 prop hence lodge and hooker is thin and at the right price smith for 26 not the 2nd half of 25 when he is tentative and unfit no thanks

Or maybe a swap straight up for AJ.
Not advocating it, but I could see how that could happen, given both are injured and not due back until roughly the same time, and also Bennett's preference for spending money on forwards over wingers. The problem with that is the Roosters are covered for wingers, it's the centre spot, they are short.

Market Watch NRL: John Bateman set to sign with South Sydney following release from Wests Tigers

David Riccio

I’ll take Bateman if Tigers pay half. He still has something to offer he’s an upgrade on what we have. Wayne and him have a connection from England. Bateman played well under Wayne for England. It would allow Keaon and Arrow to play middle too

Geez. Bateman ahead of Lodge is an interesting one. Yep, Keaon and Arrow should be middles but I would like a big middle to replace Tom's size and post contact metres. Maybe Wayne is looking for a more mobile pack. We can't forget Hubner is another medium-smallish sized middle that Wayne obviously likes and will play off the bench I suspect.

As for Smith, there is talk we will get some cap dispensation for Cam Murray's long term injury happening while playing rep footy and that could go towards squeezing in Smith on a half year salary from mid-season.

BUT, if the Roosters are willing to pay him out early for half a season's worth of his current salary, he could then be offered the Murray dispensation money (no idea but would need to be around $300k) for the 2025 cap to come on board early and get his rehab done at Souths while getting to know the club and players before he is eventually fit and ready to play mid-year some time?

Who knows?

On Bateman, he's been playing in a rabble of a team that has won 3 wooden spoons in a row so bit hard to expect someone to shine in those circumstances. You need your halves to put you into holes or 1-on-1s with opposition halves if you're a backrower and the Tiges did it all too seldom as we know. Little wonder he became disgruntled, losing so much and feeling like you're wasting your career.

He's played under Wayne for England and he knows Jack as well as the new half in Lewis who? :D

Wayne and Bellamy are the best at bringing troubled players back to their best so maybe there's a bargain to be had with Bateman after all if he does come despite the last 3 years.

This is the type we need, now we will be dads army
Bateman's 31 - not that old. Plus we've lost a fair bit experience in Cook. We've got young blokes like Dodd, Mamo, Humphreys, Gray, Munro, Moale, Hubner and others in the lower grades. A good mix of experience and youith is usually the best recipe.

This Pahulu guy is a blind punt I think.

Penrith have won the competition the last four years how many players over 30 do they have playing first grade.

Penrith are exceptional in that they have the best junior nursery to draw on each year after losing players to other clubs. So, their players in their late 20s like Yeo, Cleary, Edwards have played a lot of 1st grade games and are considered experienced while still being under 30 and can help bring in the next lot of youth each year. That's their good fortune and management. We aren't that lucky.

Wayne seems to think players can play on longer these days such as Cody and referencing Cameron Smith. Depends what position they play and how badly their bodies have been banged up over their careers.
