Updated report from someone at training this morning:
Arrived at about 8:40am by this time the boys were in a 13 vs 13 opposed session with full contact. I didn't get to see much but it looked quite intense.
From here they went into some conditioning where there was a heavy emphasis on retreating in defence and then back again with line speed. 10m sprints over and over again. Trent Elkin was ripping the boys and it was great to see. This is something I have noticed in all of the sessions that I have attended. Davvy Moale was impressive in this drill really trying to lead from the front. Lewis Dodd also doing a lot of talking and supporting his troops. Latrell was on the end battling hard but never stopped. Cam Murray also in the thick of it doing all of the conditioning but hand in a wrist brace non contact.
Then went into an offside touch game. 3 different grids set up. First Grid was backs vs backs, Second was forwards vs forwards and Third was a mixture. I kept my eye on the grid with Latrell, Jayden Sullivan, Wighton and Tass they were up against Matt Humphries, Jye Gray and a couple of others. Wayne was overseeing this group. Latrell's eye and his ability to pass the ball is unparalleled makes it look so easy. Some good little combinations forming here.
Boys then went into defensive conditioning drills. The team was knackered before, during and after these drills. Jai Arrow, Latrell and Wighton were battling. Latrell is definitely looking good though and he is putting in the effort. Elkin again was slamming the entire team and revving them up.
Wayne is overseeing everything standing in the background and observing what is going on and making comments to the boys where necessary.
The session ended with tackling using the crash pads. I paid particular attention to the forwards with Davvy Moale and Keaon belting their teammates. Lachlan Hubner also hits under the ribs and really rips in. Sean Keppie is an imposter. He is big for nothing and moves around like a slug.
Latrell stayed back to do conversion practice as extras. A few of the other boys including Lachlan Hubner were working on passing.
I've now been to a few sessions and Lachlan Hubner is definitely going to be somewhere in the 17. Great work ethic, leads the conditioning, rips in for defensive drills. Eager to see what the season has in store for him. Also Keaon is in for a big, big season. He is looking great.
Lewis Dodd has a nice kicking game. Eager to see this in some games. Putting bombs up and landing them just in front of the try line consistently. Also has an accurate short kicking game.
Mentioned earlier felt for Hazyn Mellars didn't look good for him did his hammy again and it was fairly innocuous how it happened.
Cody has not been training due to a calf strain. AJ was also walking around freely.
All the rehab group boys including Walker, Schuster, Aitken, Havili, Host and a few more were doing all their conditioning outside today.
