I think he has been put in the centres for a couple of reasons
He has been out since last year and no matter how much weight is lost or muscles made it dosent equate to miles in the tank or fitness, so he needs game time to be match fit.
Our go forward is low for the obvious reasons we all know, jye makes up meters, wereas mitchel is not a mileage FB
Stretch and munro are out,and he is a well performed centre, so strengthens the team, and if he roves like origin could prove very valuable and deadly.
Jye leading the daly m boards at the moment, many teams will be after him, as he is off contract nov 1, why not keep him happy playing first grade,i also see him as codys eventual replacement

Latrell probably approached Wayne & volunteered to change his posse--Latrell will only play rep footy as a centre so he may as well get practice playing there--& Gray has been, arguably, the best player in the comp so far in 2025[& he's a Qldlander]---surely Latrell's ego is not too big to see that!!

I'm one of Grays biggest fans and I personally believe the move is because Campbell Graham is out. Our strongest team right now with the current injury toll has Gray at the back and Latrell in the centres but when Graham is back I think there's a chance we see Gray revert to the bench. I think with the versatility of our squad we could see some crazy positional switches mid way through games. I'm talking Gray to halfback Humphreys to lock at 60 mins in. Could you imagine Gray in the halves running at tired forwards?

“These guys have got to come back from their injuries and when they do he will move back to fullback.

“Three outside backs were all injured and putting Latrell in the centres was our best option from a team point of view."

Quotes from Bennett. Also sounds like Latrell was the one who decided to play centre for the interim.

At full strength, Latrell is fullback and Jye is our super sub. The options that will give Wayne is awesome considering the utility value of both Latrell and Jye as well as others.

I liken this to if the Melbourne fans had called for Billy Slater when he was starting out to play off the bench. They didn't and we shouldn't regarding Jye.

Super sub does not work. Jayden Sullivan so far this year is averaging only 7.8 points per game with NRL.com fantasy points. This is not Sullivan's fault. It is simply because it is very hard for a half to come off the bench unless they are replacing another half. It will be the same for Gray if he comes off the bench. He will struggle to fit into the game

Latrell has missed 40% of games since he has been at Souths. His body is too big for fullback and he is not up to the stamina demands of the position. Centre is a good spot for him. Inglis was able to handle fullback but it looks like he was a freakish athlete

Sullivan is not a super sub. Just an insurance policy if a back goes down.

A super sub can come on and join the existing spine by replacing a middle once fatigue has entered the game. Gray can then either float around as a 2nd 5/8 or play in a spine position while another spine player shifts around.

Wayne has used super subs like this for years and Gray will get to play in positions other than just fullback this way which will be great for his development into a starting player in the years to come.

Some of you are saying he's a fullback. Some are saying he's a half. Well, he's a 5/8 who can kill it in all the other spine positions. He could even fill in at hooker if needed and be sensational.

Jye Gray is our future replacement for Cody when he hangs up the boots so the last thing I want to see is him playing only fullback.

Meanwhile, have people forgotten how good the Cody-Latrell combo is when they are on the park together? Touch wood Latrell finally gets some consecutive games under his belt for the rest of the season because he is at his prime age and is a superstar of the game that can set up and score tries like few others. At NRL level he could be wasted waiting for the ball out in the centres. Too big for fullback is nonsense. There's more to fullback play than just making loads of metres. That's been overblown for a few years now.

Jye Gray's time will come but in the meantime, playing alongside our biggest guns in a successful side can be the best apprenticeship he could have. Our best chance currently of being a winning side is having Latrell at fullback and Cody at 5/8 both running the attack and the others chiming in.

Latrell is our fullback for this year. It's as simple as that. You can pull out statistics and all that but he's our star player and we would've won the 2021 premiership if he was on the field. He's the perfect Bennett type of player as well.

Completely disagree that Jye can't be impactful off the bench. with full respect to Sullivan Jye is twice the player.

Long term I see Jye moving to fullback and Latrell to 6 or vice versa but for this year Latrell will be fullback.

If our club has any type of idea our long term spine will be

1. Gray/Latrell
6. Latrell/Gray
7. Humphreys
9. Mamouzoules/Smith

Rabbitohs vs. Roosters SuperCoach preview

Tom Sangster, Wilson Smith, and Jett Hatton analyse the team news for South Sydney’s rivalry clash with the Sydney Roosters.

Sydney’s stadium wars have erupted again on the eve of Friday night’s blockbuster between bitter rivals South Sydney and the Sydney Roosters.

While Accor Stadium may be the home to the match on Friday night, it is a move away from the Sydney Olympic Park venue by South Sydney which has caused the NRL’s greatest rivals to clash again.

Sport Confidential understands that the Roosters are ready to push back against any plans for the Rabbitohs to ditch Accor Stadium and move to Allianz Stadium – the venue where the Roosters have made their own since it reopened in 2022.

Souths have a deal in place to play at Accor Stadium until 2030 but Rabbitohs powerbrokers Nick Pappas and Blake Solly met NSW premier Chris Minns on Wednesday afternoon as they push to return to Allianz Stadium as early as next year.

Solly let fly at any plans to derail their proposed move.

The Roosters and Rabbitohs have ramped up their battle over Allianz Stadium.

The Roosters and Rabbitohs have ramped up their battle over Allianz Stadium.

“We think our proposal to the government is fair and reasonable and hopefully delivers value to the state of NSW and the billion dollars of taxpayer money invested into Allianz Stadium,” Solly said. “We also think it’s a good result for the NRL – Peter V’landys and Andrew Abdo have always been keen for more games to be played at “size appropriate stadiums” and they support a move to Allianz. The broadcasters do too.”

The Roosters are believed to be privately opposed to the move, adding another layer of drama to Friday night’s game between the bitter rivals at Sydney Olympic Park.

“I’m not sure why another club would be raising such an objection or take this aggressive approach to it,” Solly said. “They don’t own the stadium - the people of NSW own it. They should decide who plays in it, not another tenant.

“We are also concerned that the Roosters seem to know the details of our agreement with Venues NSW.”

South Sydney claim their long-term lease at Accor Stadium was based on commitments from previous governments to redevelop the stadium. As it stands there are no plans to spend any money on the venue.

The Bulldogs are also looking at their long-term options if the venue is not upgraded.

We only moved in the first place because Allianz was looking after the Roosters while screwing us. They have had the place to themselves since and are now chucking a tantrum because we want to go back to where we rightfully belong. They are just worried that we will draw bigger crowd averages than them making them look bad. Screw ém I say!
