I couldn't open it callmack but there reliable word on another site that says there is a deal for all 3 Burgi contrary to some media reports.
Sorry, it seems links from Zero Tackle don't work on here.

That sounds promising though mate.

Souths are apparently considering offering Ryan Matterson a contract. The roosters have told him his free to explore his options. Probably because of the arrival of Angus. I don’t think we’ll get him because there are teams like the tigers going for him too and probably willing to pay overs.

He’s a good player but his defence is suspect and the roosters are happy to let him go.

I think he's worth some consideration.

Really? I feel as if Murray or Sam could fill the starting spot better then he could. If there’s a player that could outplay either of those 2 for the starting second row spot then I’d say go for it but I don’t feel as if there is many on the market. Papalli was definitely one but he’s staying with Canberra. Oates maybe? He has the potential to be a killer second rower.

Murray is currently on the bench. So if he comes to the starting team then we need someone to fill the bench spot. Matterson would be a great get for that role.

I did read somewhere that Sam will be an edge backrower next year, but just on Matterson he'll probably end up at parra, the knights or the tigers anyway.

But then it comes down to how much can we afford to pay for a bench player with Cook and Murray off contract after 2019? It will come down to how much he wants. If he’s leaving the roosters I doubt he’ll be leaving for cheap money.

We don’t know what Sutto is doing yet but we really need a decent back rower. Bayley Sironen isn’t that good just a back up. Actually I rate Britt more than Bayley.

I’d offer Matterson 550.

If Cody or AR go down we know Tracey is injury prone too. Matterson would also be a back up 5/8.

Matterson would be a very handy pick up imo as I rate him. Like some have said, he does have defensive issues but age is on his side and I reckon he has huge potential. Can play a number of positions too. Certainly worth a shot if you ask me.

I'd sign him. Wouldn't command huge money i would think and is currently a better option than what we currently have to replace Crichton on an edge, keeping Sam and Murray to play the middle.

His utility value is a bonus but imo his best position is by far in the second row.

He would be in great demand,if everyone has noticed there isn't much on the market. Cronulla have lewis 600k free, newcastle always raid the roosters, parramatta need to get rid of many, he is a good player I've always wondered why pay crighton so much when matterson is nearly as good.
We won't get him, he is prime real estate.

I’m pretty sure there’s been a few articles about Sutton staying besides I’m pretty sure they would’ve announced him leaving last week.

For me it’s just about whether he cracks into our starting 13 to whether we pay that much to him. He might be a good option for 2020 but he’s definitely got some glaring issues in defence.

I would be surprised if he didn’t command more than 550k considering what second rowers are asking for these days.

The days of cheap first graders is finished ive noticed there are not many youngsters coming through. The nrl cannot afford to bring in any more teams, there isnt enough quality players to go around and it would jack the prices even more.
He will get 600

You only have to look at our very own 6 and 9 to see that there is plenty of talent in rugby league. JT who has just been celebrated as being one of the greats was overlooked by many as a junior.
The talent is there, the patience to nurture it isn't.
Add to that, expansion has potential to unlock new areas of talent for the game. SA can lay claim to helping produce Nathan Vagg, Joel Reddy and Brenton Lawrence, amongst others who have been involved in either NRL juniors or second teir clubs. This is with very little product in the state and even less junior pathways opportunity.

Trav,Joel is a New South Welshman and Brenton a Queenslander.Nathan is a South Australian and apparently played 2 games for the Sharks.
Mate nothing personal but I think SA should just stick with Port and the Crows during the winter months!

How much does everyone think Matterson is worth? I'm gonna say $400-$500k.

Currently, $500k would be pushing it imo.

Tbh, I don't think it's 100% guarenteed that Sutto will play on. I'd love him to but I don't think he'll make a decision until the off season.

I'm not saying we will but if Souths were to win the Premiership this year, I could see Sutto retiring and going out a Premiership winner. Again, not saying that'll happen, we can't afford to look that far ahead but it's an interesting scenario.
