I couldn't read the article as it went to pay wall but I just saw a headline from the Courier Mail that said something along the lines of: 'Souths, Broncos set to announce swap deal for Wayne Bennett and Anthony Seibold.'

Can anyone read the article? Has me kinda excited!!

Rumours emerging that behind closed doors, Souths are working overtime on the coaching situation and are going all guns blasing to make a last ditch attempt at a swap. Apparently we are offering to pay Bennett his 1 million next year to be with us. Broncos would just pay Seibs his $500,000 and not have to pay Bennett out.

An announcement by tomorrow arvo is expected. It’s expected Wayne will probably have no choice but to agree as it's best for both clubs.

Make of that what you will guys but it certainly sounds positive!!

Newcastle have dismissed the Cook link apparently.

If Cook is trying to get a 4 year deal, that would see him through to the age of 33.
Personally, I believe that'd be a bad contract at that sort of money. Either it'd want to be front-loaded (which i doubt it will be under our alleged cap situation) or he can settle for a shorter deal. I wouldn't sign him to a deal that ran beyond the age of 31.
We've already seen that he struggles if the quick play the balls aren't there to get out of dummyhalf and he is only going to get slower. Does he have the pace between his ears? That is the big question that needs to be answered imo.
One year doesn't make a career, just ask Chris Sandow.

I get the idea thats the reason broncos have waited to the last minute,they didnt want to lose the 3 of them the only 1 waiting is lodge who knocked out seibold while at the storm,he isnt signing until the last min, pengai is commited for 1 year and hopefully will come in 20 when sutto retires. Also they have forced our hand and it sounds like we are paying

I think we’ve definitely done the right thing here even if we’ve had to pay out Bennett we’re in a much better position than if Seibold was head coach.

I’m actually not spiteful towards Seibold as he got the best out of Cook, the Burgess twins, GI and all of our younger players. Seibold has shown that these players are still capable of winning a grand final and hopefully with Bennett at the helm we will claim number 22 in the coming years.

Broncos players were requested to attend Broncos HQ with coach Wayne Bennett expected to announce he would be leaving the club before next season in an immediate coach swap with South Sydney's Anthony Seibold. Then the coach pulled a fast one.

Bennett called in all Broncos players for a meeting with many reports he was set to officially announce a 2019 swap with Seibold. But a few hours later at a club press conference, Bennett confirmed he would remain in Brisbane next season.

"It's over now. I'm staying," Bennett said.

"I've been fairly consistent with it. Nothing's changed today. I've informed the players and the staff, and the CEO and chairman that I'm staying.

"I'll honour my 2019 contract which was always my plan."



I am so glad Russell didn't waste any money on this guy and I hope he tears up the Bennett/Souths contract, you beauty.

Means we will be saved another old tired crock of shit like that clown from Manly, and, I suppose I have to admit that Farrah did have two good games but I was glad when he left as well.
