If all the fullbacks in the game came off contract tomorrow I'd take Hoffman, Locke, Boyd and Minichiello over him. About the only ones that I wouldn't take would be Zillman, whoever Penrith are using that week, Moltzen or whoever the Tigers are using and Matt Wright.

I've got no ulterior motives and I hope for the Sharks sake that he plays well. But that is just the way it is. Whatever the case he is an improvement on what the Sharks have at the moment and that is all that really matters I'd imagine.

:crazy::crazy:

Cmon now, be serious. If the ball is rolling Mini can't even see it. You have just withdrawn yourself from this disscussion.

Ok, last post but Gordon at his peak was extremely good. I can't find the stats (would love some help here) but from memory in terms of meters gained, offloads and tackle busts his second half of 2010 was up there with Hayne 09. Not quite there mind you, but not that far off either. There were fewer bursts of sheer jaw dropping brilliance (though those were there too, his try against the Cows in 2010, his whole game against the Broncos 2011) but he was very very consistent for a good 20 odd games.

He is (was) just a very complete fullback. He doesn't have the step and agility of Hayne but he's a better defender. He's not quite as fast as Stewart (at his peak) but he's better at breaking a tackle. He's not as good at linking up a backline move as Boyd but he's a better support player. Kicks goals like a champ. Penrith fans watched him as a complete package for a long time which is probably why we rate him so highly.

He was every bit as influential for us in 2010 as any of those players you mentioned. How else does a team with Walsh and Burns as halves score the most points in a season.

I just had a quick look at the rleague.com archives and I stopped at round 15 2010 where up to that point Michael Gordon was yet to start a game at fullback. Maybe Penrith scored all of those points after round 15.

There is only 5 fullbacks that are able to take full control of a game and turn it in their teams favour

Inglis
Hayne
Barba
Bowen
Stewart

You could maybe chuck Dugan in there too

Gordon at his best is way behind these guys imo

LOL@YOU, Slater has won more games on his own than i care to count, your Storm jealousy knows no bounds.

Cant see why you're laughing at that mate

With the exception of Barba, all of the others have played consistently at rep level while Gordon has struggled to make a shitty NSW team, only getting one game on the wing.

The true worth of a player; NSW's selectors opinion of you :sarcasm:

Almost as geniused as Roosters fans thinking $BW coming back for a year is going to turn it all around

SBW gives them a massive boost in the forwards. Remind me of cronulla Decent halves and great tough pack but lack in the backs. But they have some good young kids coming through. Roosters will be good next year. maybe on the verge of the 8

Gordon is a good player but there's at least half a dozen fullbacks ahead of him. He's a jack of all trades type fullback but master of none

Saying they'll be better than this year isn't a massive stretch. But what happens when the dipstick pisses back off to union to play in the world cup cuz

Watch any single game of his from 2010 and 2011 at fullback and you'll see a bloke who returns the ball hard and fast, making great meters and usually breaking the first tackle. A player who is brilliant under the high ball, exceptionally well positioned in defence and will come in for a heap of dummy half runs, hit ups and averages over 200m gained.

He did this in every single game at fullback after being shifted there in 2010. Unfortunately his injuries meant that between 2010 and 2011 he only managed something like 11 games. But in everyone of those he was outstanding and his form was similar to Haynes golden run at the end of 2009.

IMO he's the most complete fullback of the lot. Or atleast he was before he did his ACL last year.

According to Rugbyleagueproject, Gordon has played 22 games at fullback, the longest streak of which was 6 games in 2010. I don't think its enough to draw many conclusions.

1. Slater
2. Inglis
3. Bowen
4. Barba
5. Stewart
6. Boyd
7. Hayne
8. Dugan
9. Minichiello
10. Gordon

The rest are all pretty average

Boyd's second half of the season brought him back up with the best

Funny thing about this is if Hayne played for Melbourne for the past 4 years and Slater for the Eels, Hayne would be No.1 and Slater No. 7.

When fit Kevin Locke easily makes top ten fullbacks in the comp IMO. I'd take him over Gordon wright moltzen zillman minichiello coote Hoffman

Although Gordon did go on a pretty good run of form in 2010 when he first got shifted there.

I wouldn't swap Stewart for any fullback, the only minutely better bloke for the job is Slater but he is a rotten cheating grub

Inglis isn't to bad, Barba....one good season doesn't make a career

Slater
Stewart

Daylight

all the others aren't even worthy of a mention

If anyone deserved a few good years at fullback without injury it is Michael Gordon. If he had a half decent coaching staff prior to Cleary he might have played a lot more games at fullback. His run metres and tackle breaks are sensational, not a great ball player but good support player.

Also 80-85% goalkicker. Makes him pretty valuable if fit. Not in the class of a Slater or Stewart but very dangerous nonetheless.
