How poor does Blake Green look at Manly? At least he is only supposed to be a good sidekick to DCE rather than the marquee playmaker Widdop is supposed to be at SGI. IMO this is precisely the (main) problem that has afflicted SGI over the last 3 years. It really isn't rocket science. A sidekick for a marquee playmaker usually isn't a good playmaker himself.

But having said that, let's see Widdop prove me wrong. I'm sure BennyV will let me know if I am. Ditto for the trippy old dude if he can lay off illicit substances for an hour or two.
How many times do you have to be proven wrong Vas?

Maloney looked good again last night. 3 try assists, 7 kicks over the black dot. He is the best buy in the history of the Sharks.

Usually I don't reply to trolls but sometimes, like now, I make exceptions.

Firstly you ********* (fill in the blank with something bad), I am "Glenn01", not "Vas" or "Vasilevsky", the forum deity so many of you are infatuated with.

Secondly, this thread was started early last season. A few were expressing their dissatisfaction or extreme dissatisfaction with Widdop. Most were calling him such things as "the Dragons best player", "the best buy in the history of SGI", "10/10" and etc. So far you ********** (as above), who TF has been proven right?

Widdop once again showed his complete lack of creativity/playmaking ability. Compare Widdop not to Norman but to Parra's cut price, makeshift 5/8 Gutherson. McCrone is justifiably being crucified for his kicking but why has he been appointed the kicker? Isn't Widdop a "marquee playmaker"? That is what the current and former coach called him. That try (which was good. In equal parts JDB, LAM and Widdop) is enough for some people to call him "a running 5/8" in the mold of Milford or Morgan (whose creativity/playmaking is far better than Widdop's) until next game, after which there will be another excuse.

Supercoach McGregor has been letting the enemy know the game plan for the last month or so. Decent coaches will come up with game plans to as much as possible nullify SGI forward domination. Last week, or the second half of last week, was an aberration on the back of a hopelessly dominant forward pack. Widdop has restored normal service. Not many if nay mistakes this week because he was hiding behind McCrone but next week along with the complete lack of creativity/playmaking, mistakes are likely as supercoach will demand he take more control.

I'm in favor of keeping McCrone for another week and giving him a chance with a decent 5/8. Hopefully Mann gets a chance at 5/8.

I agree that Widdop probably isn't suited to be the main playmaker. His only success really has been playing outside a dominant half like Cronk. As the go to guy, he hasn't really stepped up.

Eels have done well in patching together a makeshift spine including Gutherson, Pritchard and French. But they have a bona fide superstar in Norman demanding the ball at all times and a lethal left hand side in Jennings and Radrara.

Our only strength is a pretty decent forward pack, but if they are shut down, we have nothing else to throw at the opposition. Widdop and Duges are are only backline weapons and they don't really scare anyone.

Our forward pack did not hammer Norman enough, he seemed to have all the time in the world to conduct the play.

Widdop should have demanded more of the ball and directed more activity down the left edge.

If Widdop is asking for the big bucks - say over 800k - I would prefer to see him move on. Hunt paired with Hutch, Dufty or Field would be ok next year if they are made ready for first grade this year.

Thats what good players do Possm have plenty of time no matter the defence.

That's because our pack was fatigued because we only had just over 45% possession. The dropped balls particularly from Packer and Aitken just killed us.

Parra were up for the game and our forwards were out muscled which was surprising as I thought we had the better pack.

As I said elsewhere, Eels showed what a lightweight no name like Bevan French can do from FB if paired with a superstar half like Norman. We had no answers, The French try with Aitken on his arse wondering what happened was telling.

No reason why Field or Dufty can't do the same paired with Hunt. We just need someone with a clue to make it happen.

He should have but didn't want to. He knows if he hides behind McCrone, McCrone will get all the blame. He is supposed to be the main playmaker but knows better than anyone he isn't even a shadow of a good playmaker. This being so, he hides as much as possible.

I just wonder if Mann or Field is brought in next week, and Widdop still doesn't take charge of the playmaking, will you be in favor of dropping him?

I like the idea of giving Dufty a go at 5/8. Why not? McGregor himself was saying Dufty's strong point is his ball playing and therefore, would be wasted on the wing.

The eels rated Widdop .. three tries yesterday a direct result of Widdop being too slow

BrissyRedV seems to be a pretty good judge He doesn't support SGI because of Widdop but in spite of Widdop and doesn't have an inferiority complex vis-a-vis Melbourne, i.e. a fringe first grader for Melbourne is just a fringe first grader period. He is insistent that Widdop is the weakest link in defence and attack. Looking at the games since this thread was started, IMO the only possible reasons to deny this are:
A: The inferiority complex vis-a-vis Melbourne is so severe, they can't even begin comprehend the possibility someone poached from Melbourne isn't any good.
B: That person goes through life in illicit substance induced delirium.
C: They have some kind of personal reason to deny the obvious truth.
D: They are just very naive and simplistic and have Bellamys endorsement ringing in their ears after (but not a peep before) Widdop singed with SGI.
I know McCrone and Lafai would have something to say about that as far as attack goes but they are not regular first graders and if not this week, will very soon be banished from the NRL period. I guess one could argue the same is for Widdop though until now he has (disastrously for SGI) been a regular first grader.

Widdop IS the WORST signing in the history of ST GEORGE and ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA....FACT. Also the poorest half ass excuse for a leader we have ever had. Also the poorest half in NRL and SUPER LEAGUE. Pathetic is the word.

I said nothing about rating Widdop, but do in fact rate him above 2 out of 10. No point form text though, I do not desire.

I am just happy to see an old bogan face come back again.
