7/10. I don't normally reply to troll threads seriously as we all know you have no idea how to be unbiased and repeat the exact same diatribe over and over again. Frankly however, we lose the last 2 games if he doesn't play. You should have a squizz at the player 321s to see how people think he has been performing.

One thing is certain, if Gaz were giving an honest rating it wouldn't be popular on this forum. I noticed him post match vs Gold Coast. His Fox sports sidekick said "Gareth Widdop was good today?" I guess posing it as a semi rhetorical question. Gaz hesitated and said "He was much better." FFS, if he had ran onto the field and proceeded to sit in the corner for the 80min he would have been "much better" than he was against the Broncos.

Gaz was a great player but I'm liking his as a commentator just as much. Doesn't even try to hide or make excuses for his Dragons bias. And he is obviously very unhappy with a certain "marquee player" on the Dragons books.

That must have hurt.

Frankly, we win those last 2 games easily if he doesn't play. It's purely hypothetical. What isn't hypothetical is the way he has been playing!

This is where you lose all credibility mate. YOU ask for a rating, then upon receiving same, you proceed with comments above.

How do you expect people to take you seriously ? Hypothetical ? Widdop was instrumental in those 2 wins... Period. As to what Gasnier, said... that could be interpreted any number of ways, mostly positive. Much improved, better, getting there etc, but in your eyes, it was a negative again.

Seems nothing would make you happy when it comes to Widdop.

 pull the other one! Again reinforces the fact you have 0 credibility.

What would make me happy would be for him to start playing like a playmaker, i.e. setting up the attack, and a genuine "marquee player" as Mary said he was 2 weeks ago and is obviously being paid as. After 2 seasons and 8 games I am certain that won't happen.

Widdop was instrumental in those 2 wins? I can't remember the specifics of the GC game but remember the Dragons scraped in for a win vs the pre season wooden spoon favorites missing their best player. I remember the Roosters game. A try from a kick, from a Roosters mistake and an intercept and that was it. Against the current cellar dwellers missing 2 of their best players.

FFS, whose job is it to organize the attack???!!!! Who has to take most responsibility for the atrocious attack???

Anyway, thanks to BrissyRedV for his rating of 7 (I should think that is somewhat below what a "marquee player" should be rating). What is yours?

Widdop was man of the match, credibility lost as many on here rate our captain including myself. If you ask for people's opinions, respect their responses otherwise you can call it "The my rating of Gareth Widdop thread #only"

repeat #only

Thanks Minh. What is your rating? I believe blaming everyone else for Widdop's shortcomings is wrong but that's just my opinion. Others have a different opinion but either way, it's a chicken or egg scenario. No way to know for certain. That is all I have stated in reply to some posters still doing that.

Although blaming Dugan REALLY annoys me:x given the contribution he continually makes. I remember a few years ago the Shonkies were really, really bad. Every game the only player who earned his paycheck was Gallen. I wonder if Shonkies supporters were denouncing Gallen at the time. I wonder if they said it was Gallen's fault Tupou was so bad:sarcasm:.

And I'm so sick of hearing about how well he played in the last game last year. I keep asking the question but no one answers. How about you Minh? Can you answer?

We all saw in the last 1/4 of that game the smaller, fitter Dragons forwards were running riot against the fat grubs. Taking full advantage like all good halves Widdop had 0 tries, 0 try assists, 0 line breaks, 0 line break assists. So if that constitutes "played well", what exactly is it you expect for a half?

Anyway, looking forward to you rating and to explain the reasoning would be a bonus but please don't be angry if I disagree with your reasoning.

Widdops on chicken feed compared to some of the other marquee players, think he is on 550k?
Then you have players like Mybe and Keary asking for 800k? Are they really twice the players that widdop is?
Vas, you need to look at it as a 'Money Ball' (watch the movie if you haven't yet) situation.

Do you have accurate data on how much he is on? I mean, not just hearsay? 2 weeks ago the coach himself called Widdop "a marquee player". And knowing he was signed by supercoach Price, this suggests to me he is on much more than 550k. For the way he has been playing that would still be far too high but I guess the total (with other incentives, not just salary) is somewhere around 700k.

Link doesn't work. Other teams have 2 or more "marquee players". Look at Souffs for example with Inglis and Burgess. Cowboys and especially Broncos have half a team or more "marquee players".

Go to Zerotackle .com and follow the links.

Agree about souths/broncos/cowgirls, but financially they have it together. We don't at the moment.

550 was reported when he signed...sounds about right

I checked but don't believe it. Milford was offered 1mil a season to stay at Canberra but is listed as being on 450k in Brisbane. Those figures don't include 3rd party deals. With 3rd party deals I would bet Widdop is on around 700k a season.

That's the thing, we cant get third party deals off the ground. Why do you think Merrin and Morris left?

I have it on good authority that 3-4 business men were willing to top up Morris salary, but Doust for some reason refused/made excuses.

Lol Vas, my rating is he is a consistent 7 or 8 out of 10 player. Great competitor, does so many things off the ball, ticks all the boxes great defense, excellent all round kicking game and good running/passing game. If you ask Bellamy what he thinks of Widdop I'm pretty sure he thinks highly of him.
Melbourne have not been the same team since Widdop left the joint still good but not great. They used to be genuine contenders with Widdop in the team, he was part of the big 4, Slater, Widdop, Cronk and Smith.

As for the bold text, yep. I agree. He can do all that but has chosen to conceal it for the past 2 seasons and 8 games. Now I understand BrissyRedV. Widdop is a superstar, a marquee player, one of the Dragons best ever and etc. He is just waiting for the Dragons to make the GF to show it.

As for the underlined text, I'm quite certain that if you asked Bellamy today he would have nothing but the highest praise. Equally certain that if he were offered the chance to take Widdop back with Dragons paying half his salary for this year and next, he would simply say something to end of "I wish we could but the salary cap won't allow it." then in the coaching staff's version of Mad Monday at the end of the season, through fits of laughter he would say "and then I told them I wish we could but can't due to the salary cap."

As for being part of Melbourne's "big 4", I'm sure that is true in your imagination but nowhere else.

Anyway, 7.5. Thanks for your rating.

Okay but I am on record as saying the club shouldn't resign Benji and Creagh and should release Widdop, Mann and Lafai and then bid 1.3 to 1.5 mil a year for Lolohea and Elgey or Taylor.
