Raw Comedy - Anyone done it?

I've been doing stand up comedy for about 10 months now. Have decided to go in the Triple J Raw Comedy competition. A few people on here have done stand up comedy, but have any of you entered Raw before?

What should I expect?

I am pretty confident with my material for my first heat as it is tried and tested (apart from one gag)....but still feeling more than a tad nervous!

Cheers

Have entered Raw before.

Not as bad as you think but the competition can be pretty stiff with some natural comics. Few guys I met in it basically went in with nothing and just went off what the audience gave them- top stuff.

Do what you've been doing for the past 10 months and you'll be fine.

Yeah sweet.

I'm pretty confident about my stage presence and material as I have a solid 20 minute set to pull a good 5 minute bracket from.

After my first gig I in February last year I was told to enter Raw in 2007. I declined saying I was too green. I feel much better about it this time around. One guy I spoke entered Raw and his first ever gig was his first heat. He blitzed it but got smashed in the semis by more mature comics.

I am still second guessing my material though...even though it has worked well in the past.

I agree with unit, the key is to be offensive, to girls, gays, blacks, jews, celebrities, the judges, ordinary people
offend the lot of em

I did a set a few months ago about people who make up names for their children or spell a normal name differently (inserting random and silent consenants etc).

After my set a girl called Tayler (spelled Taylah) had a go at me.

Single greatest and funniest moment of my comedy career. The comedian I was talking with at the time said to her "not his f**king fault your bogan parents couldn't f**king spell..."

Oh how I did laugh.

I didn't want to get glassed.

Taylah was easily 6ft and 120kgs. Prime rum drinking stock. We did witness her belt a bloke with a pool cue not 45 minutes later.

I figured keeping my usually yapping mouth shut was the best approach.

I know part of a set when I see it ;-).

Don't doubt your material dude- delivery and belief is the hard bit.

Actually that's a premise for some material I am working on right now. I might have a crack at it in a month or so, but for now its just an idea.

Having spent an hour waiting in line to get a birth certificate for my son...I do believe I have heard every f**ked up bogan name there is.

I heard a lady say her baby's name was Wivannie....well, that's how I thought it was spelt.

Wivannie.

Turns out, after the lady at the desk asked her to spell it, that the correct spelling of Wivannie is actually....Yvonne.

I am dead set serious...

LOL The Yvonne thing is pretty funny, some people really are that stupid.

BTW good luck with your gig. I'd love a stream of it if you can do that somehow. Cheers.

Had my set last night. Nailed my routine and was picked with 3 others to go through to the semis. Pretty stoked.

Woke to find a picture of my ugly head in the paper.....not good with breakfast!

I'd just rip off an established comedian like Chris Rock.

"When I go to the money machine tonight, I'm not looking over my back for the media. I'm looking for..."

If they laughed for him they'll laugh for me. Maybe.
