The other thing to remember is that Moylan has been playing in a half baked team for a while now. Even when we were inches from the GF, it was mostly just some honest guys around a Soward/Seg/Moylan masterclass. With Cleary and maybe Martin, Cartwright maturing into the world class player we hoped he'd be and a side stacked with internationals, Moylan won't have to do it all. There's no one in the game better at icing a backline play and he will have all the options around him. I don't think he's a Darren Lockyer that can just do it all but if we let him play to his strengths in a highly functioning team he will carve out a very dominant niche.
Well said. It is also the same for Cartwright. I have found myself at times saying "give the ball to Cartwright" and expecting him to create a miracle play, mainly because Sowie and Wallace aren't overly creative. Then I pause, take a breath, and realise that her is still a rookie coming back from a horrific leg injury, a busted thumb and is is still growing. In short, it is unreasonable to expect a single player to save us, especially a rookie and especially when he isn't surrounded by enough good players.
On Friday night, he was part of the backline play that led to Moylan passing for a try in the corner. I think it went Cartwright, Cleary, Moylan. Finally we had an opposition defence that hesitated for a few seconds because each of those players could do something with the ball, including running with it.
So now things are starting to change. QLD are brilliant because they have three to four players who are creative, JT, Smith, Cronk and Boyd/Slater. Penrith 2003 had Gower, Girdler, Priddis and Campbell. Now it looks like we are not too far of having Moylan, Cartwright, Cleary and TMM. It is much harder to shut down several creative players than just making sure Moylan and Cartwright are covered and reduces stress on all of them.
