We can play with three a man bench. That’s how our rotation works. The 14 can be used to cover our most vulnerable position, towards the end of last year it was the halves.
I think our 14, at the moment, needs to be able to play 9. If one of our back up halves is ankle to do that, great. But I’m not convinced we have anyone that can at the moment.

Who ever plays 14, won’t affect the way we rotate our forwards.

That in fine in theory until someone fails a HIA or does a hammy.

If we ran out 1-17. Garner is the backup centre, If he is needed there. We no longer have backup to give Sorro a rest.

Meanwhile we have a hooker only sitting waiting to see IF Kenny gets tired.

Teams that use the 2 hooker method have their 9 run as a middle forward.

As opposed to Laurie who can cover hooker at a push, 6, 1 and wing

Thar allows 3 actual forwards on the bench

Soni is yet to show anything in first grade to say he's worth playing, was a fun story but he's a bust. I see no reason Laurie playing a simple game and passing straight to Yeo or Nathan is beyond is capabilities
No No No.
Just because you haven’t seen anything, doesn’t mean he hasn’t shown anything.

He has shown plenty, you clearly don’t know what to look for outta him.

Anyway, this topic is well done.

You don’t want him in the team. We get it.

We have 3 actual forwards on our bench right now.

I’d be willing to bet that both Soni and Summo would make better No.7s than any of our back halves would make Hookers.

Not if Garner needs to go to the backs though.
That is my point with the inbalanced bench.

If Garner needs to go the backs, our back rowers need to play less explosive and longer minutes. They train for that.

Yes but we have one who hasn't played since the last grand final and going on trend gives the side 60 mins.

Again if we had a hooker that can play longer minutes maybe you can use Lindsay Smith to give him a breather with Kenny middle.

It is just better to have someone that has played fullback, wing and halves in NRL. That could play hooker at a pinch.

You also have halves coverage now too which is an added bonus

I’d agree if Laurie can do a decent job at hooker, like actually play hooker property. If he can’t, I think we need to go with Luke or Summo.

Another option that no one has mentioned is luai goes to 9 and laurie goes to 6 to give kenny a breather.

Luai is a great defender.. never struggles against the big boys.

Not saying that will happen but if laurie plays that could be what ivans thinking.

Luai has filled in at hooker here and there.

Ivan is notoriously conservative - especially when it comes to defensive structures.
99% of our planned interchanges are direct substitutions. It's why Tyrone May was his favourite #14 - just plugged in anywhere defensively.

Our left edge is already dealing with enough new combinations - we shouldn't be messing with that mid-game unless we're forced to via injury.

Yeah i get all that. Luai hasnt been at his best for probs 18months though.

If luarie is picked in the 17 i think we might see it happen.

Daine played some really good footy at the back end of the year in the 6 for the tiges.

Yeah I don’t hate that idea.

Luai has played for Samoa at 9

Daine is also my preferred 6 for next year.

Luai's form would need to continue as is for at least another 5 games before I'd consider that. Hopefully he can get things going again and finish strong here.

Can you explain it from your perspective what he's shown? I'd be very curious to hear it.

Saltwater eel is pretty good. Not a big fan of the freshwater variety. Most freshwater stuff tastes like mud.
Way back in the day we used to catch a lot of catfish between Yarramundi and North Richmond. We used to skin and boil them in lightly salted water which got rid of the muddy taste. My brother used to catch a lot of eels at wheeney creek, but I can't remember what they tasted like...

He engages the markers and forces them to make a decision. He has a very good ability to split markers and open up space through the middle of the ruck. When that happens, Nathan or Dyl should “chase through” and it will create a line break.

The problem is, we haven’t been chasing through and it makes it look like Soni is just going out on his own and it appears disorganised.

We don’t have anyone else in the team that can open up a middle corridor like that, it’s the hardest thing to teach a dummy half.
