Brown had 3 Try Assists yesterday. I suggest that if Daejarn Asi was still here and played instead, he would've also had the exact same 3 Try Assists yesterday. Was Brown's involvement in each of the tries instrumental in the try actually being scored? I suggest no.

That's why we don't bother with such small samples as one game. Drown's 53 TAs since 2022 (inclusive) are from a sample of 70 games. Asi only played 32 games in that time, because he isn't as good as Drown, and only made 16 try assists.

The game goes for 80 minutes, not just the final ten. For example, nobody at the Storm needed to be 'clutch' yesterday because the game was over after 20 minutes. Does that mean they are worse players than some merkin whose team couldn't ice the game until the 75th minute?

And perhaps the position of Uranus is more likely to have an influence... but we need an experiment with a control group (planet) just to be 100% sure!

So after having had a night to think about the loss, I’ve taken a breath and prepared to give them another week. I think we will learn more about ourselves on how we back up against the Tigers then what we did yesterday.

It was a diabolical performance no mistakes about it, it really wasn’t first grade standard or acceptable whatsoever.

However realistically if you had of told me an hour before the game we were going to lose 56-18 I would have said that sounds about right.

Putting some perspective on it we had to fly to Melbourne who have never lost round 1, very inexperienced squad, 35 degree day. We were always going to be up against it.

Some of the tries Melbourne scored were just from class and would have scored against any team. Yes there was more than a few that we gifted to them also.

We are going from playing the comp favourites to the 3 time wooden spooners who weren’t great in round 1 themselves.

Big week at training, switch on and see what we can do this week. Hopefully we can get the season back on track…. I will be more disappointed if we lose by 2 points this week than losing by 40 yesterday.

Hopefully Ryley Smith pulls up okay with that lower leg injury that forced him off, he was one of the few shining lights from yesterday.

That's all very measured, and reasonable.

But getting 56 points put on you - 46 of which came before the halftime break - is never excusable.

I was somewhat refreshed to read Ryles' comments in the press conference - he accepted responsibility for the loss, advised it was not good enough, but he is committed to changing the club, and it will take time.

Round 1 was not acceptable, in any way - but I'm willing to give Ryles time.

He certainly talks the talk, in the sense that he knows how to speak well in public.

People put shit on Lane, and Matterson - but they are forty times the player that imposters like Kelma Tuilagi are. We missed Lane, and Matterson, dearly.

We will be better next week.

I don't think we will challenge for a top 8 spot any more, but I don't feel we will finish last, either.

We also offered Blaize 500k so had that money. Let's say that cancels out Iongi.
Sivo cancels JAC.

We then released RCG and Gutherson. And only signed Williams.

We had missing Moses,Lane,Matto,JAC,Simmonson
That's 3 million

Throw in the dead wood of Lussick,Bryce and Dunster and that's another 750k.

Almost 5 million of cap space didn't play yesterday.

2026 we will have some money to spend.

I expected every premiership window would end for us. You think it's coincidence we've missed the finals* after every grand final since 1986?

*The exception is 2002, where we made the finals despite only winning 10 from 24. We actually had a better record in 1987 and 2023 (12 from 24 in both years).
