Lol, so the teams attack was fine after Jakey came on?? 60% of the ball and we didn’t look like scoring. It’s not what Jake did on the field it’s what happened to the rest of the spine when the shift happened. It didn’t work, JA is not a utility and he’s barely ready for first grade. He should be first choice back up half and that’s it. If Moses and Brown are fit he should be learning his trade in reserve grade.
Well , that’s it , off to buy a lottery ticket as Hiney has made sense at last. The moons have aligned and I agree with the statement

FMD you’re a dumb f^*k. This was your original question. “Who would of been a better 17th man”, in relation to JA.

now you’ve shifted the goal posts and asked if I really believe Bryce would of been better than brown in the centres. Not sure if you’re serious or taking the piss.

JA Isn’t ready. Do you understand that there’s many other options on the bench. Regards of what positions they play.
JA may not be ready in your eyes, however you have failed to put up a convincing argument why anyone else would do a better job yesterday. Losing a back is not ideal, but against fast Tits backs, Dylan plugged the hole.

Last year when Dylan was injured or suspended, Moses was left as the sole kicker and that made our 5th tackle options predictable and he was susceptible to pressure. Yesterday JA offered a kick option. Was he amazing ? No, but he filled the hole. As I said, our options in NSW Cup were not great.

You don't think he could sub 9 ? Anyway Ray Stone was there to sub 9.

The thing is that there were 3 forwards on the bench and one back. Who would have you picked this week for jumper 17 and how successful would it have panned out yesterday, considering that the Tits fancied themselves by testing our edges with speed ?

If you where coach I would out 50k on us ofr the wooden spoon.

We did look like scoring.
Unfortunately Waqa dropped the ball over the line.

He's a good finisher. One bombed put down under pressure doesn't change that. Even at centre he is more of a finisher than a creator. As for his hit ups/kick returns he also uses his footwork.
Finishing from centre is different to finishing from wing. Russell or Sivo both score that try under the same pressure

OK So you reckon that Bryce Cartwright would have been better in centres yesterday than Dylan ?

You are posting smoke screens. He was picked yesterday to cover for a injury in the backs and it ended up to be fortuitous.

On the weekend, Penrith, Manly, Broncos, Roosters, Dragons, Storm all had a 6/7 or 1 on the bench.

In reggies, we had Rankin or Jack Williams as halves. Haze Perham was very good at FB and if you see the NSW Cup thread, you will see that I predicted that he would sub Gutho take over the utility gig in NRL. However at this time he has some stuff to work on before he is ready.

It's fine to have opinions on JA, however unless you have a better option for the team, then you might as well STFU.
IMO, if the only "utility" value JA provides is playing in the halves and then having to move one of our established halves out of position then it is a failed plan and poor preparation. JA has been underwhelming in pretty much everything he has done in first grade so far. Pushing our starting #6 to the centres to accommodate this bloke with half a dozen average at absolute best first grade games under his belt is symptomatic of poor planning.

If BA was so hell bent on using JA as a utility, he should have had him training in the outside backs in the off season and the trials. He's not ready to play such an important position as half or five-eighth in the top grade. I'd rather Perham on the bench, we know he can play wing or fullback, and even if not a polished option in those positions, it at least doesn't disrupt our halves/spine while giving a young bloke a taste of NRL even though he's still got his L plates on....

Question - if Russell didn't get injured yesterday, just WTF was BA going to do with JA? Replace Drown or Moses? Madness

OK I'll bite. So 4 forwards on the bench yesterday and Rein was #17. Russell is out at 35th minute. Who plays where for 45 minutes ?

Matterson goes to centre. Player a lot there at NRL level. Stone slots into lock.

Instead we had a guy play wing who never realy has and a guy play centre who never realy has. Two of our strike players id say moved too accommodate a guy who has poor defense and no real spark in attack.

The fact that Jake did so much kicking illustrates that he wasnt purely selected as a replacement in case of injury. Russells injury or not, Jake was coming on and playing 7 at some stage with the previous weeks trial game additional evidence and BAs pre game comments about trying Drown at center and fullback.
Id be flabbergasted if the same dosent happen V The Sharkies cause thats how BA rolls.
Personally Id play Oppy on the wing and avoid any disruption to our halves and backline. Rein to 14 also which would allow Hands to have a full game in the 2s. He looked promising in his short spell and needs game time. Im a big fan of Maka but Rodwells efforts V Simms and Burgess in the 2s shouldnt be ignored.

do you understand he’s not ready? Whether he’s a half or utility, he’s not first grade standard. Regardless of who his dad is or how hard he trained in the offseason. Surely it’s not that hard.

The thing is we very rarely blood young kids. Most clubs will only bring an 18 or 19yld into NRL if they are either physically ready or a special talent. JA is neither.
His ceiling is hard to gauge but I reckon it isn't that high if he was to stay in the halves. Penisini is both physicaly ready and a special talent. Mahoney didn't get a run till he was 20 and was a real talent.
Is JA a special talent that can't be held back like say Burton?

Spot on mate and I what I also wrote about. He is so freakin slow it isn't funny. Totally stuffed up our flow of super quick and explosive running and passing that we displayed before he came on.

He should not be used in the NRL again until he is ready or we have no other halves option.

He should be in under 20s still. Our back up half should be a better option then JA. W.Smith was a better back up.
SOS at Penrith looked twice the player. We've cleared the deck for JA. He may come good but I don't see it yet. Everything looks in slow motion.

It's not a matter of filling the hole at centre that people have issue with, it's that we vastly weakened a spine position (the ones that get the big bucks because they are the core of the team) in order to do so. Sure Matterson, cartwright etc would not have done as good a job as Dyl did at Centre, however that is offset by how much better we would have been in the spine with our starters in there positions and playing In Sync (cue gif)

Every squad needs a utility. Who is our bench utility this season?
A utility must be able to cover 2 or 3 positions otherwise you run with a 2nd hooker or extra forward.

So in our top 20 who is the utility? JA is not a f**king utility. He is a average halfback. You do not carry an average halfback on the bench unless he is explosive and a special talent you can not hold back. Think Burton.
