I’m happy we won.
long season to go. I’m not about to start getting worried about a close win in round 1.

He scored a great try last year from a chip and chase; I don't think pace is his issue.

He needs to get used to playing against men - but I don't believe he's ready for First Grade yet.
It isn’t “speed” pace that’s his issue. It’s “timing” pace. He isn’t in motion in attack, which isn’t our style of attack (at least not when our attack is at its best).
At least yesterday he mostly caught and passed so wasn’t a full handbrake, but almost any player could’ve done that. If he’s so fit, he needs to show it by being in motion, playing both sides of the ruck, chasing kicks, etc.
He needs to be in reggies getting 60+ touches a game. Really accelerate his development

OK I shouldn't of bothered responding to your post @hindy111

It looks like many here have already nailed it and could see the negative influence AJ had on the whole team, except for the few usual clueless suspects that is of course.

As you were everyone.

I dont know why people are so upset about it. I thought it was an accident
It was an accident but he has a responsibility to make sure he doesn’t hit the player with his knees in that situation. Very surprised it wasn’t charged by MRC tbh

We seemed to manage last year. Will smith wasnt always in the 17. How did we manage then or was it just good luck?
The main thing is being able to replace an injured edge defender (the widest three on either side) during a game. That's all that is required to stop your defence falling apart. Losing a key attacker isn't such an issue because you can just get other stars more involved. Obviously having no injuries is best of all, but you need to minimise disruption to your defence because it's your defence that the opposition can target. If you lose an attacker they can't really exploit that.

Accidents happen in NRL, however players often find themselves getting penalised and suspended after accidents. Especially when they carelessly put a player in hospital.

Yep, lack of malicious intent is no reason to avoid punishment. I can cop him avoiding suspension but it should've been an eight point try and a sin bin.

The obvious one from the weekend is finishing.
His hit ups also aren’t ideal winger kick return style hit ups. Trying to use size against 3-4 kick chasers isn’t going to work most of the time.
Is he a bad winger? No
Is he ideally suited to play wing? No
He's a good finisher. One bombed put down under pressure doesn't change that. Even at centre he is more of a finisher than a creator. As for his hit ups/kick returns he also uses his footwork.

Why should you be the only one who can read minds? Tell us what else the coach is thinking ffs

Two other facts you're conveniently forgetting:

1. The lead had blown out to 14 points when he came on
2. Our defence also went to shit at that time

Put these facts together and we can see a more likely explanation for why our attack dropped off along with our defence. Hint: it's not attributable to a scapegoat.
We magically had all the ball all of a sudden. I wonder what caused that. Do you?
Our defence was shit all game, that first try we let in was as soft as Latrells guts. It didn’t magically get worse after we got that 26-12 lead. We took them lightly and once we got those two early tries we just thought it was going to be easy.

If you think Jakey coming in worked you are kidding yourself, we had 60% of the ball and didn’t even look like scoring. It isn’t just what he contributed it’s what happened to those around him and it put the rest of the spine totally off their games. Brown was MIA after he was shunted to the centres and Moses involvement wasn’t as strong. I suppose he was stuck at second receiver half the time for Super Sub Jakey!!

Answer what? I’ve said we were better off having Bryce there. Is there something the matter with you?
OK So you reckon that Bryce Cartwright would have been better in centres yesterday than Dylan ?
@Gronk

Do you honestly believe JA is a first grade utility?
You are posting smoke screens. He was picked yesterday to cover for a injury in the backs and it ended up to be fortuitous.

On the weekend, Penrith, Manly, Broncos, Roosters, Dragons, Storm all had a 6/7 or 1 on the bench.

In reggies, we had Rankin or Jack Williams as halves. Haze Perham was very good at FB and if you see the NSW Cup thread, you will see that I predicted that he would sub Gutho take over the utility gig in NRL. However at this time he has some stuff to work on before he is ready.

It's fine to have opinions on JA, however unless you have a better option for the team, then you might as well STFU.

I'm not sure it's a good sign to be in agreement with the majority of sports fans. These are the blinkered, emotional merkins who are notorious for thinking they know better than the people who get paid to do the job.

The rate at which we conceded points ramped up massively between the 34th and the 44th minute. The triggers were getting a lead of 13+ and then falling behind for the first time. The reason we didn't score is because the Titans started having a go when they saw we'd clocked off. They didn't quit just because we scored a couple of goals.
We took them lightly and once we got those two early tries we just thought it was going to be easy.
That's right. Jake Arthur's fault hey? The boys must've assumed he was going to carry the team ffs

You seem to be tad fixated about Arthur. Who would have been a better 17th man ?

BTW Marata was on the sideline yesterday with crutches, so unsure if he will be back next week.

FMD you’re a dumb f^*k. This was your original question. “Who would of been a better 17th man”, in relation to JA.

now you’ve shifted the goal posts and asked if I really believe Bryce would of been better than brown in the centres. Not sure if you’re serious or taking the piss.

JA Isn’t ready. Do you understand that there’s many other options on the bench. Regards of what positions they play.

For all the supporters of AJ and his inclusion in the team and the question of who would have been the better fit as our number 14?

Answer = Will Smith or any other genuine utility that many clubs get into their roster that can cover a number of positions.

You don't get rid of your utility with the made up mind of using your underdone son who can only play one position and not even at NRL standard yet and then have very few decent options left.

The damage was done in the off season. In saying all that, I would have had Mitch Rein on the bench anyway. He would then have come on when Russell got injured and he would have played as and extra link man and defender in the middle. It would have meant when we had the ball our team would have had an extra creative ball player who can play at speed and is zippy who can add and contribute well to our attack which was non existent in the second half.

And when defending Matterson would have had to work harder out wide. But he is capable and good enough to do it for 40 mins. The whole team would and should have been prepared to roll their sleaves up in defense knowing that we had this issue out wide.

Instead we had a trombone in the string section and a string in the trombone section playing all his chords that one note to late.

Like I said before the game in a previous post, I would have had 3 palookas and a small guy on the bench. Stone is not the guy I would have had on the bench.

I would have gone with a bench of Rein and any 3 of the following, Makatoa, Oregon, Geig, Rodwell, or Cartwright.

I believe N. Brown is underdone due to injury so I haven't included him, otherwise he would have been the first bench player chosen.

Lol, so the teams attack was fine after Jakey came on?? 60% of the ball and we didn’t look like scoring. It’s not what Jake did on the field it’s what happened to the rest of the spine when the shift happened. It didn’t work, JA is not a utility and he’s barely ready for first grade. He should be first choice back up half and that’s it. If Moses and Brown are fit he should be learning his trade in reserve grade.
