LOL you have just echoed what the haters have been repeated for the past 24 hours.

Nobody said he was the greatest utility, but yesterday based on what was available, it was JA.

Plenty of very average plodders or very wet behind the ears rookies for other clubs yesterday doing the same job as Jake. Drew Hutchison, Tyrone Roberts, Jaemon Salmon, Will Smith all belong in reserve grade or Super League. However right now utilities on the bench are in vogue over hookers.

Drew Hutchison is streets ahead of JA and would be picked over JA by every other NRL coach.

Stop it Silly Trolley-Boy. JA is way off the pace of 1st grade and most can see that.

I suspect even the coach can see that, but is hoping he can carry him on the bench since we have such a strong team. Why? Well it is his son and we are a chance of a GF. What farther doesn't want a to see his prodigy run around on that big day? You would like to think not, but many have done worse for family.

Word salad, however I appreciate the attempt.

No better option for the bench? What changed from a week ago or what did you see on Sunday that changed your opinion from this comment referring to Arthur on the bench:

and this:

We had several better options on the bench. I agreed (and liked) both of these comments and what I saw on Sunday only reaffirmed these same concerns you shared.
What changed was that I thought about why he might be there and realised it was for injury cover, not impact. Like when other teams have a non-hooker spine player on the bench. I did say Opacic was more deserving of being the injury cover bloke on the bench, but then we're not covered if a half goes down.

So basically I was initially wrong, and so were you. But now it's just you who's wrong.

Get him a 5yr contract extension. 250k a year. Set him up before he goes into the workforce.
Let's be honest. He is hardly a certainty for a 15yrs NRL career.

Lol. I think the more likely scenario is that you realised you were deviating from your MO that the coach is infallible and your penchant for opposing the popular opinion on here, so changed your opinion (after the game mind you where we only narrowly got the result against an ordinary Titans side).

Yeah sadly does look that way. I hope we are wrong, but it seems to be heading that way.

Well I don't think the coach is infallible, just that he has more information than I do. Plus he is the only one out of the two of us who knows which risks he is prioritising. I would've picked Opacic over Russell, for example, but it's just another example of having to choose between multiple suboptimal solutions. This is what management is about. There's an argument for giving Arthur's bench spot to Opacic, or Perham, or Cartwright, but are any of them no-brainers? Jake Arthur actually played better than I expected. He didn't let us down.

I’d argue that he is prioritising the risk of getting his son in first grade. I actually think Jake is best off going to another club and trying to build a career off his own bat. Even if he improves over the next few years and becomes an actual first grade option, he’ll always have the “coaches son” argument hanging over his head. Unfortunately I don’t think either he or his dad has that confidence in his ability.
Jake didn’t let us down enough to lose the game, but any half shouldn’t have ground our attack to a stand still and we should have put that game to bed very early in the second half.

Again you're assuming our attack dropped off because of Jake Arthur, but that wasn't the only change that occurred at that time. The scoreboard had also blown out, and blaming Arthur doesn't explain why we went on to concede three tries in seven minutes. More likely is whatever f**ked our defence also killed our attack.

If Opacic came in and shifted Waqa to the Wing, JA wouldnt be on the bench.

I expect this week's team to be like this. And if JA is still on the bench, i'd be surprised
