Interestingly my son’s junior side has had a few issues over the last couple of years (long story), but we have a few players …...they got a new coach 3 years ago (Covid has been an issue)….he told me he picks his side purely on defence/effort …..the boys have gone from struggling in B’s to now being competitive in A’s….
If you can consistently outnumber the opposition around the ball with effort you'll put them under pressure and your defence will be strong. Then you only need three or four merkins who are dangerous with the ball.

Seriously though, I thought the days of Moses standing so far wide at first receiver were over. In the trial it was refreshing to see him closer to the ruck getting shorter passes from Mahoney. But we’ve gone back to the wide standing first receiver which takes an eternity to receive the ball and by then the defence is in your face. BA has no idea.

Why couldn't Cartwright and D Brown just swap positions in defence?
That'd work. It might've been how he would've been used if he had been able to play this week.
And I'm still waiting for you to tell us what injury our 18th man had tonight?
What else would have caused him to get dropped an hour before kickoff? Unless he's f**ked up somehow since the side was named. He's not the most stable character.

Yep I noticed this tonight too. Last week and the trial our halves were closer to the ruck and we were better for it. The long ball from Mahoney takes an eternity and it ends up cramping us on the long open side.

Nothing. Jake was always going to play. Someone even said on here that he was wearing the yellow training shirt this week as if he was in the 17.

Losing matterson and Nrown coming back from an injury hasn’t help our attack…the “lock” role is so important to attack these days.

I thought Paulo wouId take on a greater attacking role in attack especially in the first 20 when he was the only middle with ball skills, but he didn’t…

it’s why our attack is to sideways….

A smart coaching staff could identify that...step up mate because you just nailed it
Do you think you're some kind of genius talking about swapping players in attack and defence? Even the dumbest coaching staff knows this trick. If you've seen it before so have they. Morgan/Hopoate at wing/centre comes immediately to mind.

The most dissapointing period for mine was two periods. When we had 3-4 sets on their line and where unable to even dent their defense. The Sharks are hardly one of the best defensive sides. We created nothing and didn't look once like scoring.

Sharks everytime they where in a similar situation either scored or where close.

Twice we had over 20 consecutive tackles inside their 20 and couldn't create anything. Hate to see us against the better defensive sides.
In the 2nd half last week we had 60% of the ball and similar.

You’ve dribbled that much shit who can keep up?? You defend the club no matter what time after time. It’s never the coaching staff only the players. So the so called experts have no idea??
I defend the players as well. They're a strong bunch of players and we're a decent chance of winning the comp this year. It's round two ffs.

We’ve been playing like that for the last few years. Stifled our attack and they refuse to fix it. It’s so freakn clear. Long slow wide passes and the play is already over. There’s a time and place for that but not all the freakn time. BA has no idea

The one thing I would take from this is that I don’t think Mahoney fits very well in our squad. He got thoroughly outdone by Brailey tonight, simply by his running game. If Reed would run it more, he’d well and truly be in the upper group of dummy halves in the game at the moment. But he’s too tentative. Whether that’s his natural game or the way he’s coached is absolutely up for debate. But I’m honestly not sure we lose much with him going, given our game plan.

It's round two but I feel like I have seen enough not to have seen enough change. 6th -10th for me. I hope in the next 4 weeks things change but our structures look to similar.
