The one thing I would take from this is that I don’t think Mahoney fits very well in our squad. He got thoroughly outdone by Brailey tonight, simply by his running game. If Reed would run it more, he’d well and truly be in the upper group of dummy halves in the game at the moment. But he’s too tentative. Whether that’s his natural game or the way he’s coached is absolutely up for debate. But I’m honestly not sure we lose much with him going, given our game plan.
The f**ker doesn’t run the ball. It will kill me if starts developing one next year. But his lack of running game makes us more predictable. If he had one he would be lethal

We’ve been playing like that for the last few years. Stifled our attack and they refuse to fix it. It’s so freakn clear. Long slow wide passes and the play is already over. There’s a tome and place for that but not all the freakn time. BA has no idea

I'd go after Panthers assistant coach Jake. Before the Dogs snap him up. We must beat them to the punch.

Surely we can expect our team in round two to not be as badly out enthused as they were today??? After last week they should of been breathing fire.
We won last week, making the result this week less important. Plenty of good teams are out-enthused early in the season. Back when we were shit we got some of our best wins that way. Last year we beat Melbourne in round two ffs. They had a much better squad than we did.

What happened to our defence?
This is the thing I can’t understand. In seasons past, early in the year we’ve been so miserly with our defence, even if it falls in a heap towards finals. But our defence to start this season has been poor. Way too many missed and ineffective tackles to compete. It was scary how many simple ones players were dropping off tonight, and the inability to finish off players is concerning.

Agreed entirely. If he just had the foresight to pick it up and go with lazy markers, he’d be the next Jake Friend. But he seems so tentative, and always looks to pass first. I noticed one play tonight where Moses pushed him out of the way to take a dummy half play, which suggests a lack of cohesion. Again, whether that’s a coaching thing or just his natural game, I couldn’t say.

There was no injury. He was 18th man. If someone got injured in the warm up, he plays. If someone gets a head knock due to foul play he plays. You don't put a player as 18th man if he isn't fit because there is a chance that he plays.
We are missing a lot of first graders. Maybe we had to take the risk?

The hooker I would chase hard is Reece Robson. Tough, good running game and continues to get better. Probably yearning to return home..
No need for Hodgson
I agree totally. I reckon Robson was the best option of those that were floated when the Mahoney signing with the Dogs stories hit. I actually think Hodgson isn’t a bad option, but Robson could be medium to long term, but it seems that’s off the radar.

Matty Arthur will be ready by then, nothing surer. The 2025 spine will have him and Jakey if Bea is still stinking up the joint.

Fancy wasting your premiership window on Bea Arthur.
